It's simply amazing that we can take our small little cameras out, on our carbon fiber tripods and get pretty darn close to an Adams-like result with a few minutes, or less, of processing.

You've got some stunning stuff to put on your walls.

I love your B&W interpretation. Which software did you use for that?

Well done, well composed.

I agree. I used Silver Efex Pro 2 from Photoshop. You can use the plugin from either Lightroom or Photoshop, but I tend to like Photoshop more for the other fine tuning. I played with the contrast quite a bit before I did the BW conversion. Some of my shots this trip I used down to f22, so of course, previously unknown dust-spots appear by the hundreds, which are easier to take care of in Photoshop

Interesting approach. I get the Contrast right for my color interpretation, but I always seem to add a good bit more Contrast in my B&W interpretation. I use DxO's FilmPack which has a few dozen film emulations, but I lean towards Rollie Ortho 25, which, in DxO's interpretation, shows lots of grey-to-grey gradients. I look at the darkest parts and see how high I can go and still maintain a gradient, then I might back off from that just a little.

Pretty shot Dave. Saw a bunch of those in Yosemite, and we have tons right here in the bay area too.

A quick pano from my iPhone. We got up to Glacier Point on Thursday morning, the second day it was open, and they promptly closed it the next day due to more snow forecast. Good timing!

Waiting for the light...This is on a Wednesday evening in April. Imagine what it's like on a Saturday in June!

Wow, I've missed a lot. Mercury will be transiting the sun so I bought a filter and it works. I can still see out of both eyes. Focusing is crap though but good enough for the next Solar eclipse.

It should fit any hood with a 77mm filter if you want to try it. I screwed it onto the hood of the 300/4 which is a 77

Some fabulous images recently gents.
I love all the images Ed is posting from Yosemite, making me, more and more, want to visit.
When is the best time of year ?
Dave's bird shots continue to impress and inspire me, and I love Kevin's sun shot, complete with sunspot.
All excellent shots.

I have recently joined the BBC Weather Watchers programme, where we are encouraged to take local weather pics for use on the BBC televised weather forecast service. I joined 2 or 3 weeks ago and already have had 4 of my images used nationally, throughout the UK, and also locally here in Scotland for the main, early evening broadcasts.

Here is today's image (which didn't get used, but I quite like it).

Looking north-west across The Moray Firth, there were some heavy snow showers building.

Alan,
The best time of the year to visit is nowhere near Summer, it gets packed there. I went during March a few years back and the place was empty.

Normally, this would have been full and more waiting for you to pull out. The only problem is that Tioga pass road and Glacier Point (Ed's shot) are closed but then you hike and could snowshoe in I believe.

Yup, what Kevin said. Late spring you will get the biggest waterfall action, but the higher elevations can remain closed until June. By the the valley floor is an unpleasant madhouse. Winter is great, but you won't get any waterfalls really, and fall has awesome color with all the high passes still open, but mostly no water.

If you look hard you can see a lone hiker on the bridge over the top of Nevada Fall. I made this same hike from the valley floor many years ago when I was a healthy youngster. Oh to have had digital back then!

After a long day of trekking all over the park, it was nice to crack open a couple of bottles of chilled Rosé back at the hotel and relax to the sound of the Merced river thundering in the background from the balcony. This grenache rosé is a phenomenal tasting wine, and quickly sells out every year. I have already gone through a case and it's not even really summer yet!

Nice. Looks like a great spot to relax. Got any more pics of the hotel itself?

I don't, but here is their link. It's definitely not 5 star, but it's directly outside the gate, and has a bar and a restaraunt, plus I sprung for the hot tub in the room. Checks all my boxes

I've seen that place and it is in a nice spot. During Summer there might be a lot of traffic going by though. We stayed at Tenaya lodge the last time which was nice.
