That's how my Audi was as well and I wasn't seeing that either in the photo, but thought maybe BMW could be doing it differently.

I think it's because this Dune Grey is a new BMW color, so they wanted to show it off. But I agree that it's definitely not the best color for the M50. The Arctic Race Blue they showed on the base trim looks far better.

We were ready to like/love our A6 as well. Suffered through about 18 months until dumping it. Numerous unsolvable quality failures and blatant dishonesty with a tech we had gotten to know (all too well!) telling us he was ordered to falsify an RO to deny warranty permanently ended the relationship for us. It doesn't matter how good it looks or how well it drives if its a VW/Audi product. Won't touch it again. (P.S. I do read that the A4/A5 program has been of higher quality/reliability than the A6/A7, but the dishonesty was too much for that to ever matter.)

The Interior is a deal breaker for me, seems to be a bit of a disappointment compared to the current situation generation. I agree that the exterior and the new color look good but the inside might need some more appeal, looks like the new X3 is off my potential buys list as well. The G45 headlight unit only has a single projection lens. Maybe seeing it in person will change your perspective.

Is it the taillights or the entire rear of the car that doesn’t work for me? Call me crazy, however, the theme (for the rear) seems similar for the X3, G90,F90, and 7 series. It’s what I’d expect from Lexus not BMW. The rest of the exterior on all of those model (excluding 7) are “ok” for me. The interiors do appear to be cost cutting influenced. Will reserve final judgement until I see them in person and drive em.

You're comparing the 2024 SQ5 to a brand-new 2025 X3. The Q5 is also getting a complete redesign for 2025 so wait and see what that's going to look like then we'll talk. Also that tacked-on screen looks like crap in the Audi - that's a total eyesore. The Q7 and Q8 look so much better inside though, I will give Audi credit there.

Was reading an article this morning on the new Maserati GranCabrios, and I like the integration that they've done:

We have a car with the touch display high up, and a car with the touch display lower down, integrated into the dash. Not that either is safe to use on the move, as it’s really no different to using a mobile phone whist driving, but the higher display works better for me, as it’s closer to eye line whilst driving, kinda glancing across, rather than glancing down. |

I’m not sure the people who design these interfaces actually think of their use whilst driving. BMW’s iDrive controller is one of the better solutions I’ve used, as it avoids attempting to overcome g-force whilst taking your eyes off the road for too long attempting to stab nested display functions. Nested touch display options may work in a Boeing at 35000 feet, but not good in traffic or on demanding roads. |

Don’t get me wrong I HATE the new X3’s interior in a major way. But I’ve also majorly disliked tacked on non integrated infotainment screens. Audi can take some lessons from their cousin Porsche on that front.

People hated the G8X when it first came out. BMW didn't get to where it is today by just going with safe refreshes. Chassis looks very different from last generation and that's the point.

BMW got to where it is today largely based on the performance of its engines and rear-biased driver experience, which increasingly differentiated it from the crowd, and premium feel. The move to BEV/EV and cheap interiors will kill that, and the increasing competition in a "me too" market will eat at BMW. Probably not too long before BMW is a foot note in automotive history like Volvo, as a Chinese EV player acquires it. |
