Why does the interior look like a Russian nightclub?

I agree with many that the exterior is ok and will probably grow on me, but the interior is definitely a downgrade. Just way too much cheap looking plastics and looks like an X2 on the interior. Also, are the side hvac vents on the doors. That brings back 90’s minivan vibes lol.

Is this a cruel joke? BMW has lost its luster. They are selling poorly designed space ships now.

AutoTopNL does a little exhaust clip at 5:12:

They even show (and you can hear) that the valve closes when you let off the throttle. Some CANBUS valve trickery should have this thing sounding pretty nice!

I hope the M5 reveals saves my thoughts on current BMW designers.

That crisscross grill is so so wack.
The M5 won't save you from a design perspective. It'll obviously be a performance beast.

I'm still getting used to my ID8 car, but I don't think I've sat in a single BMW after ID7 where I felt like the interior was an overall upgrade. Any improvement came with a downside. Removing buttons, replacing them with capacitive, interior material downgrades, obsession with ambient lighting all over, I don't know. It just doesn't seem very premium to me. This, along with the 5 series, have exterior designs I can get over. I've even grown to like the polarizing G8X designs, but the interiors of these cars I just can't stand at all.

From the looks of it - they look like a slightly altered version of the same seat. Trying to give the appearance of a new seat when in reality it’s not. That is my guess. They did upgrade the material to either the synthetic stuff in the 5 series or merino. But as we know what you wrap a pile of concrete garbage with doesn’t change the fact you’re still sitting on a pile of concrete garbage.

I saw in the exterior video it has retractable hitch.

They wouldn’t want potential X5 buyers to downgrade so not sure that would be in the plan.

My guess is us crazy bimmer watchers say “it’s awful” and average buyers would not realize how funky/different it looks.

I don’t think it is awful looking. Just not something that makes me have a single regret about moving to X5 instead of waiting to buy this X3 model.

You could probably just call BMW to get one, because no one else is asking after this disaster release.

The merino seats in the photos do look like they have more bolstering. Whether they're more comfortable than the current vernasca seats is another question to be answered.

If it’s like past cars though, that will only be in Europe. Only Volvo offers the retractable here to date.

In newer iDrive 8+ cars additional seat controls are often located in screen menus This started with iX. I would not judge seat features by immediately evident switches anymore.
