wtf happened to Cristal prices. Your prices are generally good, and I paid 170 a bottle for 2 cases of 2000 Cristal last year at a regular priced local seller. Have the prices just gone up that much?

I got it from here:
http://morrellwine.com/product_descr.php?pid=180370 So I guess prices did go up. (And by cases, I meant 6 bottle packs, so 12 in all) I also got a bottle of 1996 Dom Rose that I have been waiting for a special occasion, which was only 399 when I got it. I was gonna get that or Krug Clos de Mesnil 1995, but the Krug was 2x as much and not worth it IMO. |

They jack they're prices up whenever they feel like it, and also send out allocations to just certain retailers they feel like doing business with. Last year, cost they were about 150 a bottle for the 2000 vintage, this year they went up over 100 dollars a bottle. Crazy. You some times wonder if they want anyone to stay loyal to the brand. FYI: don't know if everyone saw this, but in 2006 Jay-Z went on a huge rampage against Cristal. In my opinion's rappers and artist's in the hip hop scene are the people that made the brand, and they turned their backs on them saying they would prefer not have these rappers as customers. Some more info here about it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13350034/

Haha... I bet they are a PITA to deal with. I may buy a few bottles of Silver Oak from you (very good price), and I always wanted to try some Ace, although I have heard that it is quite overhyped (Cristal may be overhyped, but it still tastes great and gets top scores by RP among others). Can the booze be picked up locally in NYC to save on shipping?

Seems about right, Morrell is one of those "select" retailer's they give most bottle allocations too. They know this and basically sell it at cost to attract customer's because its hard to find in most place's and if you do, you will have to pay a premium. I am thinking about dropping Cristal all together, but you do always have a few order's come through, especially for gifts.
