Exactly. Creating an aspirational product - something that evokes a kid to want to put a poster of that GT350R on his wall.

They don't stop, turn, or even go that fast in a straight line stock. Last year I had the rare opportunity to test a survivor 1970 GTO 400. It was great when it didn't move. On the road it was just horrible.

This is one of my pet peeves - when someone says "no offense" or 'I'll stop short of saying" and the says something offensive. In the end, you called him naive.

That being said; I have an uncle that has owned may classic American muscle cars and with exception of the 197X Corvette Stingray, I was thoroughly underwhelmed with most first rides. The GTO was no exception and was one of the more "boaty" feeling cars.

I know exactly what Mywifes335 is saying and I agree.

To add I have driven in cars from that era that were both faster and handled like a car. The corvette being one of them, I was also lucky enough to drive a Ferrari Dino. It was a very short drive but it was enough to get a feel for th steering and drivetrain.

Thanks man. Always loved the Dino but never even seen one in person. Prices are getting up there for them now I believe.

BMW used Saturn for some design cues.

"The Ultimate Driving Machine" phrase was not created by BMW?!?!? Next thing you're going to tell me is that German diesel vehicles aren't really as clean as they claim to be...

GTO was a muscle car. Muscle cars don't handle. Muscle cars go straight and make loud sounds (GTO "Humbler" option). Basically engine tech outdistanced, tire and suspension.

The Corvette is, was, and always has been a sports car. Which is different from the Muscle Car.

Eh I don't buy it. Is the Mustang a muscle or sports car. It did/does both well, isn't that why Carol Shelby used it as the base for the 67 GT500 and GT350. So i guess we'll call that a sports muscle car?

Anyway, Isolating a car to a specific category is just a way excuse a bad idea and engineering otherwise they would never have ceased production. For me there's 2 categories: cars built to go fast and cars not built to go fast. Why buy a car built to go fast thats slower than other cars available? Cuda, Charger Mach 1, Vette, were all faster no? I don't get the GTO. I don't know enough about it but I'm assuming the GTO Judge was in limited production hence why it's revered with such blind love. I prefer all the aforementioned cars even when it comes to looks, but of course that's subjective I'm sure plenty disagree. It was a cool car but for me it no where near the top muscle car.

Sounds just like the one I owned. It was baddass for its time. I thoroughly enjoyed mine. My next car was a '71 2002. It too was badass for its time. I thoroughly enjoyed it too. Obviously very different cars. I'm on my 3rd 2002 now although the one I have now is probably even more of straight line terror than the Goat was, plus it handles & stops.

This was a great commercial for the C6 corvette back in 2005. Unfortunately, it didn't run very long before it got pulled.

They should remake the GN. Nissan called off the IDX so a new GN could be similar. Maybe it ought be called the Pontiac Demon as haven't heard of the Dodge Demon concept in a while.

I wish. My wife still can't get it right. Every time we pass a Cutlass, Gran Prix or Monte Carlo on the road she says, "there's that hideous car you like..."

I give her a pass on Regals.
