Just as a data point, my X5 keys (produced Dec 2015) have the hole

have you seen the size of the G30 tablet, i mean key? thats only going to trickle down to the rest of the models with the m3/4 being first on their list to get it.

Will the chip swap work from e90/e92 keyfob? I have a e92 comfort access keyfob. If so I'm down to get the F15 style keyfob.

So I too was going to attempt this but I knocked a component off the board of the new remote while breaking into it.

It was a knock off one from China, but after dismantling it, I'm finding it difficult to believe it isn't actually genuine. There are too many fine details inside to make me think this is some dodgy Chinese copy.

This key was meant to be for an X5 at 434MHz but the circuit inside is completely differently aligned to the one in the OP's photos.

What component did you knock off? If you can circle it for me on the pic of the PCB I may be able to point you to a replacement.

You can see 2 of the resistors on the right side of the driver profile chip got messed up. Shouldn't be hard to fix that unless he damaged the pad.

This is so awesome. I've been tinkering with this idea about a year ago, ripped apart several BMW keys, then abandoned the idea after seeing how different the PCB boards are in size.

It's one component, not two but I have no way of knowing if it's a capacitor or resistor.

It's a decoupling capacitor from DVCC to DGND. It's probably 0.1uF. I can't tell exactly the size but I think it's 0402 because the chip package is 5mm long per side in the datasheet.

Try this:

http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...8-1-ND/4380283

The PCB layout and soldering looks somewhat poor, it might be a clone/knockoff.

"I finally have a key that I feel comfortable to show my friends in a party"

Are you referring to a high school party?

What a pointless endeavour. Best of luck at your next party, fingers crossed your new key gives you the social skills you're lacking.

TBH all of you guys commenting on him saying he's comfortable with showing his keys to his friends are annoying it's clearly an expression.. so focused on a part of a post that doesn't matter, nonetheless I'm in on getting this done PM a price for you to take care of it all

I am not sure this swap will work if your original key has an NXP chip on it. This chip is an Atmel ATA5833 and I couldn't read the part number on the NXP chip in the OP. It's possible they are not pin-for-pin compatible. If you can read the part number of the NXP chip I can check though.

Kind of unbelievable that BMW would give that key for an M car. I hope they give the razor style key for M3 and up??
Would be a bummer to get the bulky key if I get an M3 vs my key with my current X5

I want my E92 M3 to have this key. Will it work? I have Comfort Access, but my key has a battery and I don't see one in these. Am I wrong?
