Coke was hugely popular in the 70's and 80's according to Wikipedia.

"In the 1970s and 1980s, the drug became particularly popular in the disco culture as cocaine usage was very common and popular in many discos such as Studio 54..."

I think the "in case you missed the emblem 5 inches above and the one on the hood" license plate is worse.

Guys... what the fuck...
You do realize that the black / white logo together with BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE (funfact proper German would have been BAYERISCHE MOTORENWERKE) is only used for communication material, meaning ads etc?

The roundel on the cars will remain the classic blue&white one.

Back on topic. This is perhaps one of the most brilliant marketing moves in the Auto Industry.

I actually overheard this:

"I think it's a beautiful piece of genius. The feeling it gives of taking charge of the rapid paced changes that gets everyone roused up today through creative use of what they have always had is impressively modern. Simplicity and elegance with the touch of vintage and use of the full brand name in expanded form. Remind me again why we spent so much reviving an old Zeppelin name long forgotten to sell an S Class Design reject?"

Imagine if they did something totally crazy like partnering up with FedEx for Home Delivery.

Wasn’t color TV an upgrade to black and white TV?

I guess I should buy a set on eBay. I’ve seen several members here with them.

i really hope they are not putting this on the car. im not sure this will work out for them. the point of the current roundel is that you can see it from a far because the white and blue stands out against all their colors. you put a bk/wh roundel on a black or white car and itll get lost and they lose the brand recognition. i mean they are already messing with the kidney grills and their round icon lights are no longer round. Maybe they want to be mistaken for that chevy malibu afterall.

so i cant wait for them to start calling the 7/8s "Bayerische Motoren Werke M760li xDrive Shadow Edition Elite". They should totally put Bayerische Motoren Werke on the side door like cadillac does.

Ah yes. There once was an emblem which BMW used to put in cars which made them exclusive. They made them have a distinct look and they were special. Now every car gets an ///M type model.

So we can look forward to the M550iEE (emblem edition). A model which is refined yet distinctively raw.

Ah the "good old days" that stir up longing commotion that's rarely anywhere near what reality was.

The whiners should probably read the press release to see exactly what this is and isn't.

Want it the way it was? That can be arranged.

someone at BMW (or the lot of them...) have been drinking their own kool aid for too long. They made the business decision to appeal to the masses for pure profit, even if that meant diluting the brand identity and alienating purists / pre F8x enthusiasts.

The reality is, they're gaining market share, and appealing to new enthusiasts who generally do not have that perspective of what the marque meant "back in the day" (pre F8x era). This is just another strategy to extend their reach/increase share, create a new tier to hike up prices, and badge whore, very disappointing. ugh. end rant for now.

This really is the most toxic BMW community I've ever come across... I mean, it looks like only a couple of you actually bothered to read the press release before vomiting hater bile all over your keyboards.

I myself prepped you for this back in 2014/2015 with the move to push further into exclusive segments as first demonstrated by the Vision Future Luxury/9er.
If you are selling a high end product offering exclusivity then it cannot offer the same promotional marketing as a 1er. Or a 2er Active Tourer The move to this new identity is to distance the luxury products from the conventional volume products. The luxury end will be more of a creative marketing approach to defining the more exclusive models that are coming on stream.
When the 2007 CS was heading for production there was that discussion of building a bridge to Rolls-Royce. It has taken a few years...
But here it is.

Well Mercedes can successfully market an S-Class, a complete range of luxury coupés/convertibles and a 1000hp hypercar, and at the same time a full range of utility vans and trailer trucks... Indeed with the help of luxury label Maybach and sportscar label AMG for the more extreme models, but everything else is marketed under the same Mercedes badge...

As previously pointed out, it seems very likely that the new black and white roundel will only apply to the marketing/communication around the high-end models, but the press release is ambiguous enough to raise questions about the badges that the actual cars will wear. One may start wondering what BMW's marketing is on

OK, the video was horrendous... I mean they show the cars that mostly will be driven by people MUCH OLDER than the ones dancing in the commercial. Are they trying to focus on new money? kids making it big via startup IPOs?..what a doozy of a commercial. I'm willing to bet none of the kids in the commercial will be driving the 7, 8 or the x7...

Brand exclusivity needs to be modeled to feature the product. The Product has to be that damn good that you don't need dancing folks, kisses, disco tech feel. Just focus on why your product is better/more exclusive...CFRP, Design philosophy, how it comes together.. how intuitive the options are etc..
