Overall design looks promising but I agree the trunk lid going that low looks odd. In a fender bender type impact with say an CUV/SUV, instead of replacing only the rear bumper cover, the trunk will also be damaged? Insurance companies are smart and will factor this in and the cost to insure will likely be higher vs a comparable Tesla Model S or other premium sedans out there.

They'll sell plenty. During my undergrad at the UW I worked at the Tesla Bellevue store. This was around the time the Model S had hit the market. I recall, at that time at least, we had the highest sales of any Tesla center in the nation outside of California.

I really hope Lucid is able to scale production. We've seen so many of these EV companies come and go, and inevitably the issue is they've been run by bean counters instead of product people or they go completely south underestimating the cost of production. The graveyard list of promise is long. Fisker, Faraday Future, Nikola..
The early product looks appealing, but part of me wonders if this can catch up in other areas with Tesla (miles recorded on FSD w/ depth mapping and edge case coverage, supercharging network, Hertz deal, economies of scale). Love the range, but this is just a first step of a longer battle of chewing glass and staring into the abyss. |

Stopped by the Tysons store today and took a look. Overall a really nice car, looks good both inside and out in the flesh. They were very adamant on not being a Tesla competitor but rather Mercedes and Porsche. Will be very interested to see how they do.

Same here. Stoped by the same store. It looks so much nicer than a Model S. I agree, this is a Taycan beater. Can't imagine buying a Model S over the Air. My 2 cents. LOL

Interior, specs and price all seem to be better than the Model S (based on what’s listed on their site), but I dunno what people see in that exterior design. I find it pretty damn ugly. As plain as the Model S looks I think it looks 100x better than this. It has a very old man look to it. That different color roof even makes it look like that fake soft top shit old people would get on their buicks… know what I’m talking about??
The interior is very nice though, definitely better than Model S. Hopefully they will give Tesla some competition. I do wonder how their service/dealer network is though. It’s been 50/50 for me with Tesla service. Only went to service center once and it sucked ass. However the other times they have sent a tech to my house which was super easy and convenient so not sure. |

I love these guys but they sound disingenuous here, trying to sell a 5000 lb+ boat as some sort of corner carving driver's car.
I drive these canyons a lot, what matters most is having a small and light car. These massive EVs have their own gravitational pull, yet everybody in the media tries to hype them up as if they are Porsche 911s.

I agree mostly, I think EV reviewers need to mention that EVs handle very good for their weight. Pound for pound, most EVs will outhandle ICE due to low center of gravity and the weight being evenly distributed between axles. Plus with independently controlled electric motors you can do really cool torque vectoring. For example, Model S Plaid just did 1.08G skidpad in C&D review, for comparison BMW M5 CS did 1.02G being like 700 lbs. lighter..
My problem is that people need to realize that they don't need that massive battery with 600+ miles of range, all they need is a fast & reliable changing network and 250+ miles of range. I will take a 3500 lbs 250 miles range EV with a good insulation (no stupid 8 ft glass roof) and a heat pump for cold days range. Quote:

We will just have to wait and see who can create an actual proper EV driver's car. Save for the EV Boxster and Giulia (which are a few years away) I am not seeing any such contenders. By all accounts the i4 is just a heavier and less focused version of the already ho-hum driving 4-series.
