2 Full torque that starts around 1200-1700 is more usable than small displacement OHV V8 torque that has to spin up to stratospheric RPMs to generate some torque and even then it's not much. For day to day driving and usability of power, modern turbo setups will win every time. Hitting the gas at 1500rpm in those small displacement V8s is worse than any modern turbo lag. You won't go anywhere. Despite shifting being fun when necessary to wring the max performance out of the car, it's a chore at other times and that's where having the torque on hand makes the car much more usable/livable.

3 High strung V8 engines may not be all full of tech, but high strung is still high strung. Revving to 8000+rpm puts a lot of stress on components and there are several issues with these engines. Same can be said for just about any engine. It's really more about how modern electronic-driven cars, sales and the fast pace of "development" pretty much guarantee that newer cars today won't be running 100% functionally in 20 years. As cars have gotten more complex and higher performance, this has kind of gone out the window compared to some old 350 chevy engine in a truck/car. IMO, we passed this "line" many years ago, definitely before the E92.

Ford's Coyote is a borderline masterpiece. 460HP, plenty of torque (though yes less than blown or low revving V8's but still shit tonnes), likes a rev and sounds great. So far very reliable too.

I admit, the Voodoo is awesome on paper. But the oil consumption certainly scared me away from it.

Don't get me wrong I like both of my cars. But the 992 isn't scratching the itch like I thought it would.

Maybe if I put the car on track it would change my mind but it's unlikely I ever will. Street car days on track are behind me.

Ok I get it. Kinda why I went back to the f80 (now CS). Easy to find all buttons and read gauges on and off track. Last of the Dct; etc. I track the CS. We time ourselfs but keep it fun. It has to stay fun or it becomes work.

The Coyote is a few steps above the "less than 300" tq of the E92 V8. Like quite a few steps. And it's possible to still have significantly more torque on tap from lower RPM/flatter torque range than the Coyote. Area beneath the curve.

But my point was that the sound isn't totally dependent on the number of cylinders or displacement, at least my experience racing tells me otherwise. It seems a lot more dependent on how the exhaust is tuned/designed for the engine. And V8s aren't the best thing going anymore for torque. Sure, back in the 80s and whatnot, you wanted torque, you got "a V8", but now with the prevalence of quick-spooling turbos mounted right on the exhaust manifold, hot-Vs and other similar setups, those days are gone. Now the turbo has more torque and it's more usable torque.

There is something to be said though for pushing limits with NA V8s, getting about 500hp from the pushrod design in the small tight package in the C8, or Ford with their sky-high RPMs. These things are cool, but their time is running out. The torque-rich inline-6 and V6s from european manufacturers usually kick their butt or are just as fast.

G87 M2 by far, as it could be last ICE car for me. The 6MT is a must.

I'm also surprisingly interested in the i4 M50. I was getting really tired of seeing close to 100k cars, so this one under cut it by a lot. Actually really interested in test driving one.

Being a Toyota truck guy, I'm also interested in the new Toyota Tundra, although I'm quite impressed by electric F150.

Otherwise, there's nothing out there. Been a car fan my entire life, but finding myself completely uninterested in new super cars (apart from AM Valkyrie).

There is a new one coming out every 5 minutes for the next reddit stock winner or next social media trend setter really loses the point of them.

Probably they have also become so unattainable that I really find them uninteresting, and those that can afford it will keep it bubble wrapped for the next 20 years, they are no longer cars to be driven, just an investment for majority of people who can afford it.

Personally I am looking forward to:
-new GR86
-GR Corolla - if it comes I'd really love to have one to replace the daily, it'd serve the dad duty but still be fun hopefully.
-IS500
-400Z (more so to see what Nissan can do with a parts bin special)
-new Mazda 6 FR with the straight 6, I really hope they don't price themselves too far north though

Funny, I used to look forward to seeing new German offerings, nothing really interest me today.

I was talking Coyote, the bog stock Mustang V8. It's a ton of power, likes a few revs and is pretty basic and uncomplicated. Sounds great too.

Seems like you can option out a LOT of car for ~$70K.

Yea exactly. Plus I feel like they're all so similar too. And then comes all the "special" editions, which really wasn't a huge thing when I was growing up. Now we have 1 off cars of Bugatti's which I've already never seen in real life as is.

That's why when cars like the M2 and GR Yaris comes out, I'll watch most of the reviews out there. Meanwhile, I haven't watched one Mclaren review in about 2 years now.

P.S. I'd like to see returns of Targa tops, and more Speedsters. I'd be super interested in those, as long as they're not unobtanium.

Not a whole lot that is exciting me right now, but I am very glad the TLX Type S is back on the market again. I have always been an Acura fan boy, and my first real performance car (loooooong time ago) was a "championship white" Integra Type R. Loved that car to bits. The only bummer about the new TLX-S is the so so power output. They really should have launched with around 400HP to really take on the S4's of the world. 350 is just meh.

All Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and Aston products are exciting to me.

Regarding attainable vehicles, the new Toyota Land Cruiser and someday new 4Runner are interesting. As are the upcoming Porsche Cayenne and MB GLE facelifts.

The Cayenne facelift should improve on an already excellent platform, and the GLE facelift hopefully makes that vehicle buyable after the miserably failed new platform launch in 2020.
