Just sell your BMW, get an A4 Quattro/Subaru AWD/Jeep AWD/etc. and by the time you're done being a schoolgirl 2-3 years down the line you can land yourself the new E92 M3 (or 335i, whichever you prefer) long after they fix the first-year bugs/glitches they always have in newly introduced models.

EDIT: Get snow tires too.

If you don't sell it, 2-3 years down the line the depreciation will hit your car. So, you really don't lose much money, if at all, if you sell it now and buy another one when you come back home to Cauh for nye aye.

Selling it would be a big mistake for you... I think. You'd lose a nice chunk of cash and lose out on having such an awesome car to drive. It would be one thing if it was a lease, then you could try and sell it at the end of the contract or w/e, you're better off keeping it for a while and just maintaining it while you're gone. You won't be at school forever.

keep in mind there's a huge possiblity that the 325 could be eliminated from the 3er lineup for 07'.

So here are the pros of having my car:
-I get to drive her! (obviously)
-Dont have to depend on anyone for a ride to run errands, go shopping or meet up with friends
-I can come and go as i please
-Having comfort in knowing that i have a car whenever i need.

Cons:
-Parking is a bitch at my school
-Shipping the car back and forth will cost around $2-3K
-When i come home for winter or summer break the car will sit there for weeks without being driven
-Winter is harsh and the salt/snow isnt good for it
-I wont have a car when i come home to visit

I discussed some alternative options with my friends and parents. They said to leave my bmw here in SD, see how long i can last without a car, and if i desperatly need one, then buy a used $5-6K car out there. Because just the shipping on my bmw will cost 1/2 that. Plus if it snows, or when i leave it to come home, i wont be as paranoid.

Any suggestions?!
I'll drive you around in mine...win/win situation...you wont
miss yours as much and well ill get to drive mine with an actual girl sitting in it

If you sell your car or leave it in Cali does that mean you're gonna leave us?

Being from LI I would say take the car. Its a real pain in the ass not having a car in LI. I used to live in Queens and not having a car was OK there but in LI its just not an option. I say ship the car and enjoy it here. When and if it snows really bad, just get some snow tires.
If you do decide to not ship it, i have an 00' accord and 01' civic for sale.

I agree with elite330, just bring your car and get some snow tires. My 325 with snow tires did great in the snow over the winter. BMW's DSC also adds another degree of safety.

I think that you will be much happier having your bimmer with you rather than some POS that you think will be better in the snow. 3'ers eqipped with winter tires are very capable in reasonable amounts of snow. If there is really a lot of snow on the road then you shouldn't be out driving anyways.

Hmm this is tough because winter break is 5 weeks long and ill be coming back to SD. I dont wanna leave my car sitting outside in the winter for 5 weeks without someone checking on it, or atleast taking it around the block. And then when summertime comes, thats about 2 months of being back home. I dont want to ship it back and forth.. gonna run me almost $3K. Plus another $1K for snow tires. What should i do?

Thats a tough one Bella. I would would say that you will find friends at school anyway and might want to hang out for a few weeks during winter and summer breaks in NYC anyway. I doubt you will go straight to SD right away. After finals I know I just wanted to chill out for a few.

Like BiggieJ said you should just drive it. You are not on a lease so there is no reason not to. In fact, you might meet someone at school from Cali who would ride back with you. I would love to drive my E90 across country.

As far as parking the car over break goes, I'm sure that a friend of yours from the area (or someone on this board) would let you park it in their driveway and look after it for you .

Forget driveway, you can leave it in my garage if you'd like. But no seriously thats actually a pretty good idea cause it would be perfectly safe there.
