The big picture, long term trend is clearly away from small cars like the Z.
But if you want to own a unicorn…
I'm in that Q2 sales number for a Z4. Only two months in, but it's my favorite car I've ever owned.

It is good to see car sales up. I've never owned an SUV myself (my wife has had 3), so I'm hoping they continue to come out with new cars if the demand is there.

I guess aesthetics don’t matter that much.

SUV sales are still strong. X5 and X3 leading the way.
I4 35s and 40s are a hot seller especially with a 7,500 credit on lease it’s the cheapest payment you can basically get on a lease. Bmw counts them as 4 series since it’s the same frame.

I get it, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all. BMW styling has taken a dramatic shift in the past several years to include giant aggressive grills and angles, over the top M performance parts (which many have voiced as extremely tacky on this forum, not just my opinion ). In addition, just look at their advertising videos. It’s clear they market to our “look at me, I’m important” world. Just look around you. People don’t have compassion and respect for each other, it’s all about self. Now get off my lawn (I’ve turned into my father &#128561.

It’s so strange how I hated the 4 series front grill (like most) when it was first released but now I absolutely love it. Wonder how that works.

Congrats! I’m in the YTD #. Traded down from an M3 and much happier driving the Z.

what typical case? I dont know, is BMW the ONLY brand that reported a jump in sales and everyone else didnt? What are you talking about exactly?

I said may be its not the grilles and look at you got all upset. Chill out dude, no one is taking away your car or your right to like it.

Weird, huh? Almost like they created a want for large grills and then delivered on that demand. Textbook definition of marketing. BMW is pretty forward-thinking these days. I’m old enough to remember when the Japanese were futuristic in shaping demand.

Two things happening here. One, it’s a new product with supply that hasn’t figured out demand yet. As such bmw created this lofty price point out of thin air and is finding the amount folks are willing to pay. Amazing they didn’t overshoot that much. And second, the cannibalization of demand for other BMW SUVs, particularly the iX and X7.

I gotta be honest.

I am seeing g80 everywhere, even in Idaho.
They must be selling a ton of these.

They started to incorporate design cues that have been popular with other automakers this era and the sales improved. That's what successful companies do. Catering to an audience that wants everything to stay the same is a surefire way to bleed red.

I don’t disagree nor blame them. In fact, that’s the point. Modern society is all about “self”, the design cues, in my opinion, market towards that.

I wonder how much of some of these "surprising" results are a result of supply, not demand? I'm in North Florida, and when I was looking for new BMW's early this year I could not find much at all in the 3 or 5 series range nicely loaded or anything M. Also X4's and X6's were non existent. I had to go 6 hours away, down to Orlando and up to Atlanta to find anything in stock to test drive. All the dealers I talked to said they were not getting allocations for X6's and the only way to get an M340, M550 was to special order one when ever they got an allocation. This might just be what was happening in my area, but if some of these were hard to get, then it would definitely affect the sales numbers to reflect availability more than actual demand.

This result y/y isn’t surprising because of the supply chain issues last year, particularly within the 3, 4, and 5 series coming from Europe.

Looked at probably 20 dealers inventories in the last few weeks searching for a new X1. One thing that stood out to me: electric cars, at every dealer, making up 75-90% of their new inventory. Seems to be a market trend as most manufacturers seemed to have ignored customer data and instead got sucked into the hype machine. Good luck to them with lots full of cars that most mainstream customers did not ask for.

I doubt they have that many BEV’s on site. I’ve looked personally at our dealerships in the area, and the majority is ICE. The reason they show those on their websites is the new orders are trending that way and that’s where the vast majority of the growth is. On the other hand, I read that non-Tesla BEV inventory is growing and companies like VW and Ford are struggling to find buyers for their inferior electric vehicles.

BMW + Mini killed Benz including vans YTD 2023 sales result.

BMW has been in a golden age since the late 20-teens.

You don't have the imagine. You can look.
Sales were LOWER when grills were smaller. (Not "Normal". They're both "Normal")

We associate how we like a design with other qualities of the product. When you see good reviews pouring in, or when you drive the car and like it, you start liking its design too. As design is completely subjective.
To say that a design is a failure, you have to have some problems like being egotistical narcissistic etc.
(My taste is the right one. Designers should be fired! If you don't agree, there's something weird about you! You have Stockholm Syndrome! )

Dinosaur syndrome is worst though. If any of the toxic haters here were given the chance to make the decisions for BMW, BMW would cease to exist in near future. Thankfully they're not, and BMW is having its best years ever in terms of sales AND critical acclaim. They've never been this much ahead of their competition, ever. Not in 70s, not in 80s, not in 90s, not in 2000s, not in 2010s.

A lot of people have bad taste regardless of how much money they earn. There are others where design is not a priority. I could be something as simple as the badge or keeping up appearances.
