I stopped eating fast food almost a year ago. I'll probably eat out 2 times a month if that.

All great responses. I am just absolutely perplexed that people are spending so much for fast food. The costs do not seem sustainable.

I also find it interesting how things have shifted so much in the past 30 years. I grew up middle class and my family might have eaten out at a restaurant once a month, if that, and fast food or take out maybe once a month as well. This seemed to be the norm for the majority of my friends. There were probably 10% of the restaurants available to us then as there are now. It's really kind of crazy to me and I've lived this area of Kansas City for 45 years. My family eats out a lot now, probably 8+ times a month. It also makes me question if people are really worse off now than they are back then as so many complain about trying to make ends meet. We seem to spend a ton more on eating out and on other luxuries that eat into our finances that we didn't have 30 years ago. Perhaps that's for another thread.

Really? Fast food spending is what perplexes you? Pretty much everything post covid perplexes me. Cars, housing, travel etc. Everyone stopped working while simultaneously becoming rich overnight. At least that's what it seems like here in SFLA.

I did the same, but because I hit 35yo and dman the body slow down !

6.0' I was 150 lbs when I was 30ish, now covid + bored + work from home + fridge next to me = 170lbs.

At my height it still not bad, but damn 30 lbs in few years. Starting to have sugar nipples

Im always hungry, I wish I can find something to stop that.

My trick was a banana and coffee at breakfast to cut hunger, and I was able to get to the lunch, but its not enough anymore.

Im active , but not sportive, so I need to increase sport, and totally stop fastfood

It's almost cheaper for the two of us to eat at FF than home with the price of groceries. AND, I don't have dishes to wash!

Totally agree with all of this. I don't get it.

I used to eat a lot of fast food. My first job was at Dunkin Doughnuts when I was 21. I would remember eating a whole box of little caesars pizza myself. Every day I'd get two large fries from McDonalds. I got very heavy. I think I got up to 190 pounds and I'm only 5'8".

I stopped eating out and started counting calories. I cut my calorie intake to 1500 a day. I worked out every day. Now I'm down to 153 pounds.

I do take out at work maybe 1 or two days. Always make my own coffee and breakfast so I can afford to splurge a bit. I cook dinner in my house nearly every night unless I'm at my Gal's house where I hate to cook, since I despise her kitchen. Electric stove that I can't cook on and I'm spoiled by mine when I remodeled my house.

I tend to frequent family restaurants that serve take out or the pizza place near my place of business. I also have a mini fridge next to my work station so really don't go hungry.

Have you tried one of those injectables like Ozempic or Mounjaro? Supposed to really help with high blood sugar.

Oh wait, I think those are for type 2 diabetics. Are you type 1 or 2?

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Gonna go bankrupt like nothing.

Type 2, likely a side effect of the massive diuretic doses that are needed to keep me alive. There is no quick fix, and I'm a walking pin cushion from all the different injectables my doctor prescribed that didn't work.....

I’m 5’8” and was 148 for the majority of my life from when I joined the Army. I was 148 when I joined and 148 when I got out four years later, not that four years is very long. But, I maintained 148 until I was about 53 or so. In the last eight years my consumption hasn’t really changed, but my weight has been creeping up. I was pretty steady at 168 for quite a while. Over the last year or so it’s crept up to 173. I did a couple of months of Nutrisystem about two years ago and I think I lost 15 pounds or so, but that food was really bad and there wasn’t much of it. I think I bought a three month supply, but quit after two months and threw away the last month of food. I’m not certain of my weight when I started or ended, because my scale wasn’t working. I make my judgement based on the change in how my clothes were fitting and that I had a couple of people comment on it appearing that I had lost weight. I wish I had gotten a battery for my scale.

I need Ozempic to control my Type-2. Twice in the past year I've had trouble getting my necessary dosage (2mg) because people are using it for weight loss. It does work for that (I've lost ~40#) and has got my A1C from around 7.2 down to about 6.5. If my meter is correct, I'm down to about 6.0! Haven't been able to walk much due to weather and granddaughter duties, but my number is still down. I also can't eat as much as I used to; half a Costco pork chop or piece of chicken with a side dish & veggie is sufficient. I also don't eat until around noon, and usually not much more than a sandwich and some chips at that.

Most of my diet problems were solved when i learned how to make good beans and rice. They are fcking delicious, keep you full for hours, and help you live longer! It’s what the Gods eat, imo.

^^^^^ This! ^^^^^

My doctor just changed me from Trulicity to Ozempic last week, after another 14+ A1C lab test. Both are in the same class of drugs, and work by slowing the digestive tract down. As someone who already has a digestive tract that runs slower than molasses at the north pole because of the massive diuretics dose that's keeping me alive, I personally think that it is a waste of medicine and would rather leave my doses available for the type-2 people who need it.....

Even on a healthy salary, I can't help but feel some irritability when buying groceries and fast food every time I go out. Fast food such as McD, Chipotle, Chik-Fil-A, or going to wholesale places like Sam's or Costco - prices have gone up significantly. I couldn't believe the price of McD the last time I ordered in the drive-through. I used the app for the "deals," and I still felt like I overpaid for what was ordered.

PS: Chipotle is awesome and can be healthy depending on choices. Fite me

Give it a couple of months and your number should plummet, mine did. The weight also started to come off after those couple of months. I ended up having to buy a couple sets of pants as I never equated the "O" with the weight loss (the commercial says 10-15 pounds, not 40!) I'm actually at the weight I was when I got out of the Navy 43 years ago! My wife is a bit perturbed, she says I no longer have a cute butt

I used to love to get beans and rice at the Black-eyed Pea! It was good and cheap. I’m not a big fan of the Mexican rice you get with most TexMex, so I learned a few years ago to mix the beans and rice together and make my own.
