I’ll keep it real simple, the car above is not an M40 it’s a 20d.

Like I posted above it’s a fact that the M40 didn’t have plastic seats as an option in this region. Vernasca was standard on the M40 here.

It’s a forum so good and not so good, so just agree to disagree and move on.

Synthetic leather (also called leatherette, faux leather, vegan leather, and vinyl) is made by taking a base layer of fabric and coating it with some form of plastic, like polyurethane or PVC. This coating is then treated to give it a texture and finish that mimics the look and feel of leather.

Why would anyone attempt to cast the word, "plastic", in a negative light? Plastic, per se, has no valence.

adjective
Capable of being shaped or formed: synonym: malleable.
"plastic material such as clay."
Similar: malleable
Relating to or dealing with shaping or modeling.
"the plastic art of sculpture."
Having the qualities of sculpture; well-formed.

There are high quality plastics and low quality plastics. Ask anyone with a replacement heart valve or MRI-compatible pacemaker.

If BMW did a high quality job with plastic material to create SensaTec or Veganza, as I believe they have and have experienced, they are to be praised. The SensaTec seats in my G01 have a soft hand, attractive style, are comfortable, and require less maintenance as compared to leather. If the SensaTec or Veganza results were low quality, criticism would be warranted, but that is not at all the case here. If one is obsessed with leather, that's fine, but it doesn't reduce the quality of SensaTec or Veganza.

The driver door switch bezel is another story...

The G45 employs Veganza, not Sensatec or Sensafin, as an optional seat covering.

This is still ultimately petrochemical derived plastic, so if you’re offended by the world plastic look away lol, but it utilises a high % of recycled polyester (a plastic), plus cork particles and some other stuff.

The primary benefit is significantly reduced C02 emission during manufacture according to BMW.

Veganza is the newer product from BMW with higher quality than Sensatec. It wass first used in the 7 series and as more people demand animal product free interiors, it is a logic consequence offering as a standard.

When looking at the new X1 and X3 I also tested the haptic appearance of the seat cover materials.

To be honest the Veganza is a great product and coming from owning 2 X3 G01 with Vernasca Leather interior I wass amazed that the Veganza is closer to a soft leather than the hard Vernasca. In reality the surface of Vernasca has nothing to do with real soft leather. Only the center part of the seat was even Vernasca. Sides, doors, center armrest was all Sensatec.

One of the problems on the G01 was the side of the Vernasca leather seat cussion as these where made of Sensatec and where cracking when getting older in hot climate. BMW adressed that by making the side of the cussion fabric now.

If you wanted real leather on the G01, you need to get the Merino leather. For my M50 I also ordered the black/grey Merino leather seats as these are realy nice in regards of surface and seating comfort.
