for those of us who have grown up around gmr know of someone who has gone down and I'm sure none of us would wish that on anyone.

I took a trip through it just a couple of month ago and it was really an eye opener to see so many memorials(pictures w/ parts of their car) along the road. I don't wish that on anyone

You say disgusting, I say Darwin.

Look, if you just happen to be driving too fast because you don't know any better and something bad happens, it's tragic. But if you go and tempt fate (to put it mildly) and bad shit happens to you, up to and including death, I say good riddance.

I lived in West LA for 12 years. I've done the canyon thing along with every other god forsaken road down there (or so it seems). Never once did I think to myself, "oh, I'll go careening in and out of both directions of traffic in the dark at excessive speed and everything will be ok."

You may say I'm just talking more shit (and it's your right to say that), but I honestly think the world is better off with more fatalities and less stupidity.

in the dark at excessive speed - & this right here proves you don't know what you're talking about, i'm sorry but it is truly safer to canyon run at night than it is during the day!

if you were to go on a canyon run(i use this term loosely) in the middle of the day, stayed in your lane & never crossed into on coming traffic, you have just as much of a chance, if not more, to hit somebody around a blind turn who 1. blew a tire 2. broke down for watever reason 3. crashed

at night, on a canyon, you have twists/turns/ups & downs, you can see a car coming(from their head lights) from literally miles some times..depending on the canyon & where you are on that canyon..& if you can't see for miles you can DEFINITELY see ahead to the next blind corner!!!

& again, for you to say "good riddance" is ridiculous, you're wishing death upon a kid for being immature..are you saying that you NEVER did anything stupid when you were younger?!, it was stupid! yes, i'm not debating that, what he did was in no way smart but he does not deserve to die!!!

if you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living?

I do agree with some of the posts in the front page extolling the virtues of a tuned Mitsu Evolution. Iam quite confident it will be better than a GT-R could in the twisties.

It's safer to do drive at night on a twisty road fast than it is in the middle of the day? Really? I am seriously at a loss for words at the bill of goods you're trying to sell me.

Your logic is falling completely flat on its face here. First, I have already stipulated that when stuff happens to someone that's out of their control, it's tragic and (by implication) I am sympathetic. What you're describing here are random acts that might happen to anyone at any time.

I agree that at night you can see oncoming headlights. But you're still conveniently leaving out the excessive speed component. As the video clearly showed, the GT-R didn't crash into an oncoming car, but into a wall that was not illuminated. The things that led to his crash were:

1) Excessive speed (it's obvious he couldn't control the car at that speed)
2) Driver error (see number 1)
3) Darkness (I challenge you to tell me that he would have taken the corner that fast if that wall was lit up and he saw it)

Look, I'm all for a good debate (some might say I go out of my way to hunt one down), but any way you slice it, your dog just won't hunt. The kid was driving recklessly, he crashed, there's video proof of this. There's no way that driving at that speed in the dark is safer than driving at speed in the daytime. Again, I challenge you to disprove this. Please be sure to show your work.

I did a lot of stupid things when I was younger. A LOT. Yes, I'm being harsh on the kid. But here's my logic. First and foremost, if anyone were to wish ill of me for all the stupid things that I've done, I wouldn't begrudge them one bit. The way I see it, I'm really lucky to have gotten through my 20's unscathed. (Un)fortunately (depending on how you look at it), I've always been a tough love kind of guy. If you do dumb shit, you deserve anything that comes your way. It's apparent that we have different philosophies regarding this so I don't expect you to agree with me one bit.

So does the kid in the video deserve to die? I don't know and, frankly, I don't care. All I know is that he was doing something really, really dumb and if it wasn't for the fortunate placement of that wall, he'd be in a world of hurt. My initial reaction was that I wished the wall wasn't there. Thinking back, I still think the wall shouldn't have been there. Like I said, Darwin.

Look, if the kid goes back out there and dies, I won't feel bad for him. I'll feel slightly bad for his parents who should feel responsible, and I'll feel awful for friends and family.... However, he's doing this shit for the high. The more danger, the higher he gets.... It's like a crack or heroin addict. Doing illegal and dangerous shit for the thrill you get from it. After that brush with what potentially could have been a tragedy, he should have learned his lesson. The parents should have as well. If not, then Darwin has a way of working this stuff out. I don't wish the kid was dead, but I'd rather only have someone die who was responsible for that outcome, then to have innocents die instead or as well.

Yes, indeed it is.. now hard driving a road that you DON'T know at night is just plain DUMB, but otherwise, as others have said (including me) doing it as night gives you a chance, if you can't spot whats comming during the day..

Your logic is falling completely flat on its face here. First, I have already stipulated that when stuff happens to someone that's out of their control, it's tragic and (by implication) I am sympathetic. What you're describing here are random acts that might happen to anyone at any time.

Plenty of people drive dumb..

I agree that at night you can see oncoming headlights. But you're still conveniently leaving out the excessive speed component. if there wasn't excissive speed, would it be fun?? As the video clearly showed, the GT-R didn't crash into an oncoming car, but into a wall that was not illuminated. The things that led to his crash were:

1) Excessive speed (it's obvious he couldn't control the car at that speed) agreed, to a point
2) Driver error (see number 1) Most deffinitly
3) Darkness (I challenge you to tell me that he would have taken the corner that fast if that wall was lit up and he saw it) I feel the darkness had ZERO to do with it.. I'm sure the wall was illuminated by the headlights... AND the guy was following someone, it's not like he blindly went straight, he saw the leader go left, HE COULDN"T, it looks like understeer got the best of the guy..

Driving at speed is dangerous no matter the time of day.. peroid. Isn't that THE fun of it though?? Why would you buy a 300hp 335i if you wern't in it for a little "fun"??

I did a lot of stupid things when I was younger. A LOT. So you have no leg to stand on then right... The guy was 20, when you were 20 and if YOU had the same car, it's likely that YOU would be in the video then, yes?? Yes, I'm being harsh on the kid. But here's my logic. First and foremost, if anyone were to wish ill of me for all the stupid things that I've done, I wouldn't begrudge them one bit. The way I see it, I'm really lucky to have gotten through my 20's unscathed. (Un)fortunately (depending on how you look at it), I've always been a tough love kind of guy. If you do dumb shit, you deserve anything that comes your way. It's apparent that we have different philosophies regarding this so I don't expect you to agree with me one bit.

Hindsight IS 20/20, is it's easy enough for you to sit there and speak about how dangerous it is and how you would have done things different, but in the end, if you were in the same situation and the same age, who's to say the EXACT same thing wouldn't have happened??

So does the kid in the video deserve to die? No, not in the slightest, but he SHOULD be made to drive a YUGO for the rest of his life..
