Still going through my images from Portugal last week.
Here is a shot of Carvoeiro from the beach. The raw intensity of the light, and the clarity of the sky, really makes the colours pop. Colours of Carvoeiro by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

I don't normally allow weeds etc. to flourish in my lawns, but I spotted this little beauty yesterday and thought I'd let it grow to try and get a shot of it.
It now stands about 1.5 inches tall. So this became an exercise in apertures - left to right, f/32, f/16 and f/2.8 I actually find all 3 have their appeal. Apertures by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

A beautiful portrait of a very beautiful young lady.
Have you thought about slightly toning down her hand, to match the rest of the skin tones ? It looks a little distracting as it is, to me anyway. But it is still a beautiful portrait.

RED Sign
Leica! by David Stephens, on Flickr I was in Boston for a convention and stayed at a hotel where there was a Leica store in the building. After handling the SL model with their 24-90mm zoom and their 90-280mm lenses, I see the attraction. The EVF is exceptional and the racking the zooms in and out is like thick butter. However, the weight is too much for my usage, particularly the lenses. If I only carried the two lens and one body, then I might put up with the weight. The converters for the Canon lenses don't operate the image stabilization, so hand held usage of a 500mm is precluded. Oh, and the prices sent shock-waves through my body and wallet. Still, these are stunning pieces of equipment. Dave

I was checking out your Flickr page, DC. You have a shot of the setting sun between buildings. It was like a trip back 30 years. My first job out of the military was for an asbestos abatement company and my first work site was 100 Arlington St, which at the time was the original UMass Boston building. It's just out of the frame of your shot to camera left, across from Smith and Wollensky.

Thanks Mark. Here's the image for all here to see what we're talking about:
Evening Sun-star In Boston by David Stephens, on Flickr I made the whole Album Public so that you can continue your walk down Memory Lane. ;-) I'll try to get everything labelled by tonight. Dave

I was just browsing it. Great shots. I have many similar shots from when I was there for a conference a few years back. The Trinity Church/BPL area is ripe for photography.
