Got up feeling good this morning after about 8.5 hours in the rack. Hit back, middle set of DL, a decent high weight low rep set of preacher curls then swam for 20.

If only I didn't have to be at work at 6:30, I might like an early morning workout routine!

weird -I just deadlifted recently after years off and stopped at 3 reps too, haha!

I was mostly thinking about form so I did singles with short rests in between and then worked up to a triple. I will see if I continue to deadlift. I don't really have the desire to go heavy these days. I'll just continue to pull double overhand so that my grip will give out before my back, haha.

Did a few mountain walks this weekend. For some reason, while walking up the hills, I always had a contingent of buzzards circling overhead

Brother shot 2 boar with a single shot Friday night. Sunday night we had backstrap pan-fried in bacon grease, O M G !!!!

Last night, after that hour to get thru Santa Barbara traffic, I really wanted to go to the gym but it was closed. So I ran 2.5 miles instead. I can't remember the last time I did any road work, and there was a certain disturbing bounce in my mid section.

Jacked up my blood sugars too. Woke up about 2:45 and blood was at 68. Had a glass of milk, 3 oreos, and 4 units of insulin. Woke up this morning at 263 ;(

Further south, in the Nard. It took me almost an hour to get THRU SB, and there were no bodies on the roadway, not smashed metal/plastic, not even a CHP car parked on the side of the road.

Deadlifts on the car to change the tires? Opportunity knocks, you just got to open the door.

Swam again last night for 20 minutes after chest for 45. Liking the swimming, but I seem to have broken out in hives on my chest about an hour later. The water is kinda murky, when I glanced over with my mask on I couldn't even see the betties 2 lanes over.

back on the grind

had a quest bar with 5 egg whites/banana this morning

prework - 2 turkey sausages with 2 buns/2 packets of strawberry oatmeal (is so good).

if you want that hot dog fix, check out johnsonville turkey susage. it's half the fats and full of protein (10P each).

Last night was baseball practice for my boy so I did 9 laps on the outer edge of the track, avoiding baseballs at each end from other teams. Each time around at the start/finish I did a set of push-ups/leg lifts.

THEN I went all George Foreman again and emptied all the 55 gallon trash cans into the dumpster.

Up 2.5 lbs muscle, down 1 lb fat last month. Pretty happy with my latest diet adjustments. Took me a while to figure out I just may be more carb sensitive than most. Now hoping these sorts of gains will continue for a while. August will be 2 years since I got serious about fitness.

Not really, its pretty simple. I get weighed on a monthly basis and my body fat checked with calipers at 3 points on my body. These values get entered into a spreadsheet so I can track my progress.

On Saturday I set a goal o 1000yd swimming after my chest workout. Had no idea how far 1000yd was in a pool. At 750, I decided I had swallowed enough water, I was really starting to flounder. Got home and explained it with a blood sugar of 63.

Sunday p.m. I did shoulder work between baseball games. Intend to run track tonight during baseball practice, then do the GF trash emptying finish.

IF I can stay awake that long. Dog whimpered all night long, I took her outside at least 6 times. When she wasn't making noise, the wife's fan was blowing in my face.

Hitting the gym and lifting is tough right now.

I usually like to lift during lunch. I take a little bit of a longer lunch (11:30 to about 1:30) and get it done. Now my boss is gone for the entire month so I am stuck running our section. I have switched to a quick lift in the AM before work combined with some running on days I don't lift. I find it easier (albeit boring) to run 3-4 miles in the morning than go through everything and fight traffic to get to the gym.

Excuses all around, but I've definitely gotten better at running. Trimmed down a little too, so it's OK. I'm actually looking to trim and lose weight right now, since I got way too chunky recently (lifting + eating whatever I wanted). It will all work out.

Ran (almost) 10 outside laps, in reverse direction. First 5 laps at each completion did a set of push-ups and sit-ups/leg lifts. Second half I only did it every other lap. GPS says I covered 2.73 miles. Finished dumping all the trash cans, although this week it was lighter work since there was only accumulation from one weekend of games.

Yup I do straight legged DLs for hamstrings. I change it up between the bar and DBs. Also sitting vs lying leg curls. I stick to just 1 day for legs with a variation of: lunges, quads, hams, glutes, calves.

IMO, there isn't a "best" exercise that will work for everybody. some people will respond better to high reps/low reps/low volume/high volume.

i usually do them both in one workout. see if doing just one ham exercise works for you, if not, throw in 2 exercises.

I try to include some variance in ALL my exercises, even within the sets. Slight variation in the width of my legs on curls, switching from seated to laying different days, varying weight/rep ratios. That said, my target is being stronger in life, not necessarily being picturesque posing in front of a mirror.

I had a GREAT back workout last night. Somehow felt stronger when I got there, was able to lift more weight, and still swam 300yds afterwards. Quit there because I had to go pick up my son.

Good advice. This is why I usually change up my lifting style every couple of weeks or months, whenever I start getting bored. I try to change up reps, weight, supersets, etc. I figure the more variations the better. I also try to rotate exercises for my muscle groups so my workouts are different week to week.

i woke up 165 today, most, if not all, my lifts are up since i ended my cut.

i am giving this "clean" bulk a try this year and so far i am liking it.

My boy is playing Little League All-stars, so I haven't had much time to hit the gym. After a double-header on Saturday we were supposed to go to a Galaxy game. After a short nap in much too warm weather, I decided to go swim 500yds instead of getting a Red Bull. Water wasn't as cool as I had hoped, but still felt better after.
