Eleven years ago, when I was 66, I got a wild hair up my a$$ and decided to
paint the brake calipers on my 2004 Mazda RX-8. To make room, I backed
our 2012 GLK 350 onto our slightly downhill driveway.

I blocked the wheels and then removed one wheel at a time, followed by
cleaning and painting (red) of the brake calipers. After I was finished and
had lowered the car, I grabbed a beer out of the nearby ‘frig and then
plopped into my comfortable chair, just to lean back and admire my work.
Just as I turned my head, my RX-8 was rolling very slowly out of the garage.
I leaped out of my chair and made a valiant effort to grab the front wheel
well. I missed it by inches, then watched in horror as my RX-8 rolled into
the right front corner of our year old GLK.

Dumb $hit forgot to set the parking brake and also failed to notice the slight
incline of the first 3 feet of the garage floor.

That is the last time I did any heavy duty work on our cars.

Do you wear glasses? I do, with bifocals.

If not you can get a cheap pair of reading glasses at your local drugstore. Will help a lot with small things.

I get my "cheaters" at Costco. It's something like $20 for 3 pairs.

Definitely worth it. Get a lanyard, keep them around your neck and you're good to go.

Back in my younger days, I rented a one-car garage at work to store whichever of my two cars I wasn't driving. During the summer, I hung the hard top for my Jeep CJ7 from the rafters with ratchet straps, and would park my VW GTI under it during the week and the daily driver Jeep under it on the weekends. I kept some of my race paddock gear against the back wall.

One evening after dark, I parked the GTI outside the garage door with its headlights shining into the garage while I went inside to get something from the paddock gear. I needed an extra foot of space, so I popped the Jeep into neutral and started to roll it backwards. TL;dr I cracked my head on the hard top hanging from the rafters, and was on the floor bleeding from my skull as the Jeep rolled backwards through the door and whacked my GTI hard enough to break a headlight bucket and make obvious dents in the hood and front fender.

No way was I going to submit an insurance claim for that one, because no adjuster would believe that two driverless cars collided with each other and the owner of both cars was injured in the incident.....
