My wife and I are suffering feline derangement syndrome since the death of our beloved cat. The only hope of retaining my sanity is cat photos. Here's one.

We've decided that we will get another cat, though: At my age of 76 a cat is likely to outlive me. We're upping the ante, though -- thinking of getting two kittens. Our rural location with cougars, coyotes, stray dogs, etc., is dangerous though. We're still discussing it but I want inside cats this time.

A box of kitties, what could be better? Lol

You’ll be happy with your kitties, Llarry. I keep mine inside too, they are so much safer there and after a while they are completely happy in the house.

Have you considered adopting adult cats? You can often find bonded pairs, and inside-ready loungers. These are also the ones that have the hardest time finding homes.

We haven't set on anything yet. We're doing a trip in a couple of months and will start thinking seriously after that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Good idea adopting adults. Our current cat was 2yo when we adopted her. I'm pretty sure she was an inside/outside cat because she would always go to the door to be let out, which we never did. We've had her almost 10 years and she stopped doing that years ago and is very happy to be a house cat.

She's most happy when she gets to lounge, as you mentioned, and has many favorite spots. She also patrols and terminates any pest she comes upon: spiders, gnats, moths, laser pointed red dots, feathery things on the end of strings, toy mice filled with catnip, etc.

Not really funny or cute, but an interesting photo from World War I over a hundred years ago. Trench warfare was the standard and rats were a huge problem. The solution was to bring in cats to control the rodent population -- and simultaneously provide a bit of comfort to the soldiers.
