OMFG this is so true
When you enjoy something but have to do it as a matter of life or death, it ceases to be fun.
Why is this?
So is the only rational solution to do what you are good at (that which earns $ with less effort) so that you can fuck around elsewhere?
In other words, your work can NEVER be fun.. unless you live off income and legitimatly don't have to do anything?
I actually think work can be fun and that you can do what you love. Some of us can't because we want more than what our passion would create in terms of revenue, freedom to travel, etc...

I work with fun people and though what i do is often a snooze fest, some of the people i do it with make up for that. A long time ago my wife loved what she did but hated the people she was working for. It nearly caused a career change for her.

If i (and the wife) were ok with being nailed down to a small town in the Smokey or Rocky Mtns doing bike tours or running a bike shop/rental store as the main employees. We'd both be happy making a meager living doing something we loved. But just this year we've had or have trips planned for: Snowboarding, Rolex 24, Marathon in Mini-soda, trip to Barcelona, trip back to Maine, trip to Barbados and a few weekend trips in between. Much of that wouldn't be possible if we were the main employees. We've tried that before with a pizza shop and without enough revenue to hire a proper staff, leaving turned out to be a nightmare.

I our plan is to try and make enough now to buy revenue generating assets so that we can move somewhere to do something like that. But supplemental income from other assets will provide the freedom to continue the lifestyle we desire.

I'm envious of those who can work from where ever they want. Having a business that provides good and services on a local level can some times be a leash i'm not fond of.

This. I would only add that you need to be passionate about what you do, whatever it is, and the success you have doing it makes it better. What I do could be boring for some, but I love doing things creatively and differently - and I love putting new challenges on people to be better than they thought they could be. When I see the success we have because of something I have encouraged on of my people to do, it is really great. I have gotten letters from people that remind me how rewarding just about anything can be. If you put yourself into something, whatever it is, the reward will be greater. The truly great set their own milestones and objectives. It may not be "exceed team quota" or "have a million dollar earning year before 40" - those are great, but ultimately, soulless. You can do the same thing with goals like "Have every person on my team make it to president's club", "get one of my team promoted to management", "save Customer X $Y Million by end of year", "have 100% successful new implementations", etc... If what others recognize you for does not reward you, find other ways to appreciate the impact you can have.

Adding a couple pics: these are the things I find most rewarding.... one is a note from a young colleague who I mentored befroe I went into management (when I was just the guy who had been around a while) and the other from my inside support guy who supported me, but didn't work for me. They sent these when I left that position to go to a new team.

Check the bushes next to your bathroom would be a good start.

Something in this thread made me wonder how many trust fund people (don't want to use babies as that is often seen as negative) are on BimmerPost.

I've red like six of them, it takes a long time to go through one (a classic one can read in hours, those takes weeks) since it's hard to shake off the wtf feeling. I honestly recommend reading the 50 shades. Those books are like the best comedy show you've ever heard off!

When it comes to kids I'm strict but raising them is not a passion for me. The stuff around it I do seem to take a bit more seriously than most people but that's just me.
How's you hand? Any loss of function?

You've highlighted the important point of not being able to have your cake and eat it too.
Life is a compromise, less of what you don't want, more of what you do want.
In my line of work, it's possible to follow the mkt 24-5.5, but you would burn out and performance wise it's prob a better idea to trade only half the time it is open. Pick and choose, to stay on top of the game.. pushing it only creates adverse results.

Meh, its swollen like a teenagers dick and bruised with a few nice scars but I'll live. My ego seems to have taken the most brutal part of the injuries.

That's quite the imagery - how can we make it so that it's your ego that's swollen instead?
