Other thing I will add is that if you are buying new, Porsche is probably the least expensive option to order with as many options to make your car truly yours or one of one. Whether that helps with resale is a different story. And I'm not just talking paint to sample. It's obviously not unlimited but you still have quite a wide variety of options.

Agreed. The "base" 911 is a fantastic car with a ton of performance. Naïve to think otherwise.

Least or most? Before I decided on the R8, I was looking at 992 GT3s and every option felt like a swift kick to the face. Ultimately, the only thing that stopped me were wait times/mark ups but Porsche options were brutal.

My mom is on her second Boxster and loves it (she would've gotten the new Z but they didn't come in a manual).

It's a great 'vert to drive and makes me want a Cayman S after my 235.

I looked at the R8 and it's a relative bargain compared to the Lambo version.

I agree Porsche loves ala carte a lot, but on the flip side you aren't paying for options you don't want either. If you want the lightest and least expensive version, you can have it.

The R8 is more of a grand tourer for someone who wants all the creature comforts. The 911 can be that car too or it can be more of a sports car. With that said, the 911 is also becoming more of a grand tourer, so I can understand why you'd expect more luxury features in a 911.

But if you compare performance figures between the R8 and 911, you probably only need a 911 4S to be comparable vs buying a Turbo or GT3. And the GT3 is really a completely different car that I wouldn't cross shop an R8 with to begin with. There's a reason why cars like the GT4 and GT3 etc do not provide certain options...because they are the true sports cars of the Porsche range.

The 718 is more of the non-GT sports car now for Porsche.

Oh and I did mean least. I mean look at a Ferrari or Lamborghini. a fully loaded 911 Turbo S barely touches the base price of a Ferrari Roma before you even select paint color.

Yeah, I was pretty confident I'd hop into a Huracan but COVID drove the prices up to the point where the car is a joke if any prospective buyer saw how much they were 2 years ago.

I don't agree completely with grandtourer, especially with a RWD model available now. The R8 is a supercar, the 911 is not - even if half the 911 models would smoke it. It's definitely one of the most usable supercar so I see where you're going with GT. I say that as a Porsche fan boy and someone who would choose an upcoming 992 GT3RS over the R8. Comparing it to a 4S is odd - they're not even close unless you're only referencing Nurburgring laptimes but that's inherently the wrong way to do it. 911s are better than the Ferrari 812 (lol no - none of them are) if you look at it that way. Can't generalize cars that narrow otherwise, most performance cars have no reason to exist because of Porsche.

The GT2RS is faster than an SVJ..... I'd take an SVJ over 10 GT2RSs and again I'm a massive Porsche fanboy.

Plus N/A V10 > All 911 engines

Now overpriced + an additional 20%

Timing didn't work out for a purchase in 2020 and now the cars I've been eying (981 GT4, 718 GTS 4.0, 991 C2S) all jumped into a range I don't feel comfortable paying. Bobo spec 991.2 base Carreras are now into the mid 90s, which is insane to me.

whats crazy right now is you can go into a lambo dealer and order a huracan evo rwd with decent options and $0 ADM for like $240-250k. (base price 214k).

2018 GT3 6mt with 120 miles just went for $224k on BaT (50k over sticker)
GT3 tourings still go for 240-260k+

New 2022 GT3 is impossible to get and $50k ADM on top of the 160k base price is seen as normal now. So decent spec (ceramics, buckets, lifter) you're looking to be around $240-250k.

It's a matter of opinion. Porsche could be hyped or not and they manage to do well; it is one of the maybe 4 brands in the world that literally gets to choose their customers because demand far outweighs supply. We all complain about prices, lack of allocations, the vehicles being slightly numb but we still throw money at them. I'm on my third Porsche with a fourth on order and I still hate the fact that I like them. Truth be told for the money, it's hard to find another brand with better resale consistent reliability and outright performance.

Having a religious-like following allows people to get in and out of cars like none other either. It is not a brand without faults but it is just obvious they have cracked this game. LONG long before the covid used car outrage.

probably not for a number of reasons:

- no dealer near me. community scoffs if your only service is at an indy shop instead of ferrari itself.
- community is very mileage sensitive.
- not a fan of automatic turbocharged stuff for a weekend supercar. (huracan evo rwd, or C8 z06 sound more appealing to me than a 488/F8)
- F12 is nice but i wouldn't trade my GT3 for one, and its too expensive to be a replacement for my grocery getter F80. I'd be too scared to park it anywhere regardless.

Cool, thanks for the reply! My dream weekend car is a 430, 458 or 488 Spyder...someday, someday...

And that's exactly what I did and why I did it! I am on a few GT3RS lists and said F these games, and these prices, I can get a Lamborghini and be done with it. (considered McLaren, but NA V10 and bullet-proof platform sold me on the EVO).

Porsche prices are super inflated right now AND dealers games are ridiculous. For a small amount more money, you can have a helluva a lot more car and a much better dealer/brand experience.

Don't get me wrong, I love Porsches, and have one, but I won't be chasing one down again unless things normalize.

I didn’t pay any ADM for my custom ordered 911 that I just received. Dealers will try to charge ADM and some won’t. It’s the same deal regardless of brand.

And I think unless you’re buying a GT3 touring, you’re wasting your money….unless you have money to burn and can afford to run the thing on the track. People want a GT3 because they are told they do.

15k? That's a steal. They're all going for 50k.

I had an allocation with a dealer I have a good relationship with.

Got the call. He said 50k now or msrp next year.
