Unlikely. The whole reason the Si has rev hang is because it uses a dual mass flywheel. The Type R has always used a single mass flywheel, and it's lighter for this new version, so it should rev even more freely.

The rev hang he's talking about is programmed in due to various asinine emissions requirements. My 2009 GTI would hang when shifted below 3,000 rpm, both before and after I put the single-mass flywheel in it. However, above 3,000 rpm there was no rev hang as I assume VW programmed it so that there was no hang at higher engine speeds. Revs will fall more slowly with a dual mass flywheel, but they won't actually hang there artificially.

I'd love to see it. This is definitely software and not the flywheel. It's in many, many modern cars. Lots of older cars with dual mass flywheels have zero rev hang. The E46 M3 and Z4M have S54 engines with DMF and have zero rev hang. The revs actually drop too quickly to shift smoothly at times because the gearbox is so clunky.
