BMW got to where it is today largely based on the performance of its engines and rear-biased driver experience, which increasingly differentiated it from the crowd, and premium feel.

The move to BEV/EV and cheap interiors will kill that, and the increasing competition in a "me too" market will eat at BMW. Probably not too long before BMW is a foot note in automotive history like Volvo, as a Chinese EV player acquires it.
My comment was design based, but yes, every manufacturer has a dud. That said the XM is a test mule for the M5 drivetrain and the X7 continues to sell just fine even with it's LCI weird looking headlights. Pretty sure BMW will be ok unless somehow, they go from record sales in 2023 to a footnote in automotive history as you say. It's also pretty hard to judge the future driver experience and premium feel of a vehicle until you get in one and take it for a spin.

I would take that over my G20 made in Mehico.
Agree with your US made vs Mexico made position but heads' up, the X1 & X2s are not made here, they're made in Deutschland

I've had my wife driving them 3 consecutive vehicles in a row now (her latest is a '24 model). Interiors, especially on the lower level offerings IMHO are nicer than BMW equivalents. Other than 1 minor issue with the '18 Audi we had (& worked around it vs taking it in for a fix), all 3 were zero hassle. To each his/her own though & all that.

The deciding factor for me the last couple of vehicle shops for myself was that BMW was offering better discounts & still does a military discount vs Audi.

BMW X vehicles are also assembled in other parts of the world, and have been for years.

The BEV iX3 version is assembled in China for global consumption, and most X3 G01 variants are assembled in Rosslyn, South Africa, for European markets. The G45 ICE variants will also be made in Rosslyn, along with hybrid variants.

Regensburg plant Germany assembled its one millionth X1 in 2023.

This is the most pathetic BMW move in a long time. I cannot believe they destroyed the X3. it really looks like a Forester. the hood line and fender look like they robbed Subaru.

what is with the no body lines? the cheap kmart door handles? the blah overall look. seriously, you are going to spend 65K on this? really. have you checked yourself for the flu?

Sad day to see all of BMW cars march down this line of POS design. by the way, take that 17 dollar curved screen and toss it. there is nothing wrong with having a dash with bezels and a center stack with a screen. I mean I know its a way for you BMW to save money, but hey, I guess that is what you are going for.

In order to maintain the cost of BMW, they save on everything, there is not a single metal part in the cabin, there are no metal thresholds, there are no inserts in the trunk, the cushion on the steering wheel is now plastic even in the M version, the sound power is half as much, the door panels and panels are no longer covered leatherette. This is the approach of Korean manufacturers but not BMW. A shame

Garage List
2024 BMW X1 28i  [9.00]
I don’t know what BMW used to do BUT in December 2023 I took possession of my first BMW. It was a 24 X1 28i (2nd yr 3rd Generation). I was among the 1st to receive the 2024 model. As compared to the 2023; 1st year with new design, BMW removed the glove compartment light leaving a cutout not covered in anyway, only used 1 led light by the passenger side hatch door, included NONE of the 6 rear tie downs. To me the SCREAMS CHEAP!!

I’ve owned 3 recent Acura’s. One is my current 2019 RDX Advance. That was their 1st model year of its 3rd generation. When I compared it to the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 or 2024 I did not notice any omissions by Acura from the prior year, only slight changes & or improvements.

Go figure

Working in the G45 configurator reminds me of what it’s like to order a new company car. Very few good options, cheap materials everywhere and not a whole lot
to get excited about.
