Caledonian Railways No.828. (Caley 828)
Built in 1899 and still going strong. Seen here at Tullochgorum heading to Aviemore on the Strathspey Railway in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.

My first moon shot with the Sony a9/FE100-400GMOSS combo. I LOVE that I see the actual image in the EVF, so there's no excuse to get exposure wrong:
Waxing Gibbous Moon by David Stephens, on Flickr I'll have to try with the big-boy Canon on, at 1000mm and get a more detailed file, but this isn't all that bad.

Looks great to me Dave I use my Fuji to shoot the moon more often now for the same reason. The EVF is tough to beat in tricky exposure situations.
Did you pick up any TC's for the Sony Glass? |

Oh wow, yes. That was taken with Sony's FE 1.4x. I love it. It's about 2/3s the size of the Canon, doesn't slow AF a bit and it's sharp.

I just wanted to share some good news with you guys.
Earlier in the summer I entered a competition here in Scotland run jointly by the Royal Bank of Scotland and The Herald newspaper. The theme was 'Scotland's Skies' and as I take lots of sky pictures, the theme really appealed to me. The rules allowed for only 1 image per entrant so I had a difficult choice to make. Here is the one I chose for 'Scotland's Skies'. Aurora Curtain Today I had a call from The Herald to say that my image had won and I was to be invited down to RBS HQ in Edinburgh for a drinks reception and to be awarded with the prize ! I honestly couldn't remember what the prize was and had to ask. Guess what . . . . £1,000 worth of travel vouchers from Barrhead Travel, a well known Scottish Travel Company and a day with a top pro photographer in either Edinburgh or Glasgow, my choice. (1,000 GBP = 1,350 USD). We're away to Portugal on Monday, and then Madeira in February, so the prize will go towards a spring break somewhere, maybe Rome.

One of my favorite locations from our Italian trip last year....
Podere Belvedere, Val D'Orcia Tuscany. We woke up before sunrise to stand in a paddock for about 30 minutes before first light... It was pitch black, but as the sun rose, we were met with this stunning sight... I love the shooting part of photography, but not the processing, so just getting around to processing some of my favorite images.

This one got explored today. Also one of my shots was selected for the 2018 SF Audubon calendar. That will take care of my self-horn blowing
