It’s a civic hatchback in si trim. Womp wooomp. I was really hoping it’d look more… Integra-y.

This is nothing more than an updated ilx with an integra badge on it to generate some buzz - which in itself was nothing more than a slightly spruced up civic on an old platform.

Names people. That's the big news here. Let there be car names. Not stupid three letter codes. Sure, the car is boring, but it portends a CTR with a less ugly suit.

Initial likes & dislikes:
Likes: -5-door lift-back layout (good compromise between 2-dr coupe & traditional sedan) -6-speed manual transmission -Entry price point -Future trims/models (i.e., Type-S) Dislikes: -Uninspiring/generic taillight design (more CLA or Genesis Coupe than Honda/Acura) -Shape is not as sleek as many people's memory of an Integra silhouette -Front-end, while not bad looking, echoes the corporate Acura face; some more Integra-specific DNA wouldn't have hurt. Neutral: -Civic underpinnings (this one isn't terribly surprising considering the ILX, RSX, which itself was a rebranded 4th-gen Integra, and previous generation Integras, all were closely related to equivalent Civics at the time); makes sense for the price point, but it also would've been cool to see Integra go upmarket slightly.

I'm not going to call this a swing and a miss. It's a better looking Civic and if I was deciding between the two, I'd choose the Integra. To me it's better looking by far. The new Civic doesn't jive with me at all.
I think the bigger issue was Acura's marketing campaign prior to the reveal. They hyped this way too hard as a bigger deal than what was revealed yesterday, a Civic SI clone. When you promote it the way they did, I expected something a little more groundbreaking underneath the sheet metal than an automatic transmission option. Acura has been all hype for a while, it's getting old. Marketing doesn't sell enthusiast oriented cars to enthusiasts, substance does. And there isn't much here in my opinion. I'm looking forward to higher end versions, but the precedent that this reveal set is that I may as well just look to Honda to see what's coming since a new exterior and a badge seems to be all Acura is capable of doing.

What a joke. A slap in the face to the integra name.
How does Acura build the integra type R, and then call this car the integra?

After all of that hype, what letdown. Two thumbs down on the car and the marketing behind it. I'm 45 and remember the ITR, this new one doesn't hold a candle to the OG in Championship White.

The TLX Type S with the staged drag races showing it beating an S4 and website showing misleading comparisons between it and the m340i, proclaiming that the Acura had the better transmission because it was 10 speed vs. 3 series' 8 speed. And now this integra, so much hype behind it only to show something that looks nearly identical to a civic at first glance (because... it is).

Japan has really been trying hard in the performance realm for a few years, but for whatever reason they can't seem to get it right. BRZ, Supra, Lexus F division/F sport, Civic Type R, Nissan Z, TLX Type S, etc.
Whether it be styling, lackluster powertrain, lackluster chassis/handling, etc. all have some flaw(s) that earn disdain from enthusiasts.

I am not offended by the new Teg, it was expected it'd just be a re-dressed Civic and piggyback on a legendary nameplate. Underwhelming sure, surprised? not at all.

I mean, the old Type R wasn't for everyone, it did look edgy and in some cases, pretty aggressive, but they managed to take a controversial design and make it hands down worse with the newest Civic. It seems a lot like they really are not trying hard and it's just the opposite. I think back to the glory days of the 300ZX, 3000GT, old Supra, GC8 Sti, R32/34 and so forth. It seems more like they are making longshots and half-hearted attempts attempting to capture that past glory. Meanwhile, Hyundai is kicking ass with i30Ns and Veloster Ns. I think the Japanese makers, more than most any other category, are prioritizing selling #s of cars, rather than catering to enthusiasts and models that keep people excited.
