Criticism by itself isn’t bad. I can take it. However it’s HOW you did it. Your choice of words. You could have made your point without the nasty “nursing home” comment. You know it. I know it.

Mercedes has had its lighted grill option for a while, but I see very few of them on the road. I don’t think it’s become a runaway hit.

Maybe the lighted grill might be a good alternative to flashing your headlights, in order to get some slow poke out of the left lane. Or maybe it will encourage them to drive even slower if they don’t like BMW drivers.

It looks something more like Lexus 550 hood but that is a boxy car that deserves it. all makers have paid attention to this hood/ fender height ratio and gone for a high fender to hood ratio and subtle transition line. Get inside the car and so the hood towers even when seated! In person to me it looked hideous and disproportionate in its characterless side and overstated high hood. I am sure it will suffer as did other recent BMWs such as big grille. But difficult to propose clients when they have beautiful X5s X7s or lrevgen X3/ next to it, for clients to knowingly rush to get this one. Maybe it is designed to funnel people to the X5? Who knows or maybe BMW leftover designers are as eclectic as their varying outputs.
I think the exterior looks good, the interior is my compliant. Design, fine but the plastics seem lower than usual. I bought a new 2025 X5 and the sales consultant told me a new X5 arrives next year and said maybe to wait. I said no, because of what happened to the 5 Series I don’t trust the new one will be better.

I’m just trying to control the urge, but not until there’s a model with at least 700nm torque, which is rumoured to be 2025.

Yes, the illuminated grill is a configurable option.

In the X5 LCI with iDrive 8/8.5 there is a setting that allows you to "delink" the lighting from the drive mode allowing you to choose any color no matter what drive mode you select. Is there not one in iDrive 9? Would suck if they removed it.

I assume there is an on/off switch for that red blue lighting, but is there a dimmer switch to lower it in case it’s too bright for one’s tastes? Or is it all or nothing?

Yeah, you can dim (or brighten, if you'd like) the interior accent lighting.

Yea, I'm going to assume factory setting is on (linked to drive mode), and as mentioned when you put it Sport mode the ambient lights turn red, and you can’t select any other color. Though when you turn it off you can have any color regardless of drive mode.

I can say with all the negative responses on this car. It was a nice surprise having actually bought it and drove it for a while. The driving experience actually feels like a notable improvement. I would urge people before criticizing to get into the drivers seat and drive it. This is a very good car.

BMW tends to have the right blend of tech, functionality and drivability. That’s the reason I buy them. You can drive the glc 43 or even 63 to compare. The Mercedes is just missing something in terms of livability with that car even though it has a technically more luxurious interior. Same goes for Porsche Macan.

I don't think anyone's knocking the "drivability" as the consensus from most is that the G45 will continue to be a best seller! Most criticism (from pro and amateur alike) has to do w/the interior quality and very polarizing exterior!

I personally miss the fender air intakes that were real in the G01 and often fake on other brands. It's little details like that on the outgoing car that makes people realize "it's a BMW"! You want "monolithic design"? Japanese premium have been doing it for years! I think the "churn" away from BMW for MY25 will favor the Audi Q5/SQ5. Audi doesn't have the total package but at least it's much closer to what the X3 used to be!

Latest figures (2023) show BMW car sales were;

Asia and China 2,000,000
Europe 1,000,000
US 400,000

Maybe that’s why latest monolith designs are aimed at their biggest and growing markets. The Asian market likes it.
