So you are telling me if I make $50k per year, I can save $50k or more per year by investing in high yield stocks?

Do you work in Federal Government accounting?

Nope, but I've made more in the stock market than my annual salary. Also investing in cryptocurrency which has gone up over 1000%.

Right but you need lot of money already put away to achieve that, having small annual salary helps also.

I don't think you understand where those of us questioning your statement are coming from.

When you said it's possible to save as much or more than your annual salary in high yield stocks, your statement implies someone can buy stocks at the value of their yearly earnings or more. In other words, your statement implies if I make $50k a year, I can buy $50k or let's go for broke $100k in high yield stocks. That's where my comment about if you work in Federal Government accounting came from.

I get the gist of what you're saying. But you're incorrectly using the word save. To save (or saving) is the process of putting money away. What you're describing is the after results of saving due to earnings which results in what you have in savings. Saving/save does not mean the same as savings.

That's true, I've saved up a few years and so when I earn 45% return it is a big chunk of money.

Depends on how much money you have to invest and how much you make. I made more money in the market than my salary in 2017.

You only need about 6 figures ($100K) to make close to that as apple stock was up around 45% in the past year.

2017 was a good year - a typical average risk (diversified) portfolio returned ~15%.

Your 1M portfolio would generate 150k

As others have Indicated your choice of words makes it sound like you invested your entire salary for a whole year. If you have already built up bunch of cash from previous years then yes the market can make more than your salary. 2 million dollars at 1 percent can yield you more than part time at McDonald's, so what.

The S&P500 did right about 20% in 2017 plus dividends, you'd be over $200k.

Diversified portfolio is not S&P 500.

If you're young, your portfolio SHOULD be the S&P 500.

Diversification is basically stupid if you're talking more than just owning the S&P 500.

S&P 500 consists of only US companies. Even if you want to be all equities, you still should have some international exposure (developed and emerging markets).

Having 100% allocation to something following MSCI World Index is a better recommendation.

Diversification is the only free lunch in finance. you can diversity in many ways: various asset classes, various products...

My account did 14.24% in 2017. Mixture is 10% REITs, 10% Emerging Markets, 20% Small Cap, 20% International, and 40% Large Cap. The stocks I personally picked and sold did 37% for 2017.
