On paper it is nearly perfect, but it just doesn’t quite work in reality. I think the price is a little too high for a ‘mid size’ and stock it looks a little bit goofy, they can look really good with a lift and some bigger tires, but people don’t want to do that these days. |

I think the Gladiator may have had a little too much “Ahnahld” appearance for the masses. I bought mine as a be all, do all. As impractical as it may seem, it could do everything. Its demise for me was the steering. I could nearly turn the wheel from 10 to 2 before the front wheels would respond. Blah blah it’s a Jeep thing blah blah. No. It was a legitimate safety issue with steering boxes, tie rods, linkage replaced multiple times over. Wife told me she wouldn’t drive it anymore and that was the end. I’m sure I could have gone aftermarket and figured something out, but that’s not fair. These things aren’t cheap; why do I need to spend more to bring it to base level?
I digress. It’s a soft spot for me as I’ve wanted a “Jeep Truck” as long as I can think. If the Bronco is what it looks to be, I may have a Ford in the future. |

4dr wildtrak, but with most ppl are going, with full option pricing done, i might go badlands with 2.7 option and couple others (this way you can get bothj front and rear steel bumpers other than plastics, and front sway disconnect, and non-black top that is actually body color matched)
got a confirmation call from my local ford dealer, they said i can make some adjustments when i put in options for my order

Yea these reservations are really just placeholders that 1. qualify yourself to Ford as someone interested enough to leave a refundable deposit; and 2. helps Ford with their projections as to what trim levels and features people are interested in. Nothing is binding in the reservation.

I'll wait on it till probably 2nd year. I want to see what aftermarket stuff comes out and whether or not they'll flex on manual / sasquatch combo options. Also want to play with a configurator to see what trim level to get - changing options is one thing, haven't heard if you can change trims though (ie deposit for badlands, but then change to wild trak or whatever).

I don't off road so perhaps I'm displaying gross ignorance here, but I can't relate to why I'd want a manual trans in a 4x4. I understand the appeal in a sports car, but a off road vehicle?

Yes, it's still an underpowered toaster with wheels, but you're still a lot more engaged with the MT. Additionally, you can control the power band much better by shifting when you want as opposed to when HAL thinks you should. |

Also not an offroader, but the ability to modulate the clutch to roll forward / backward is actually possible with a manual.

Why would you want an automatic in anything? Just my opinion, but I'd roll a Sprinter with a manual.

I remember walking down a German street with a buddy about five years back-- MT, MT, MT, MT, MT, AT on all of the cars parked on the street. Maybe that's why they get the "cool" and we get overbloated SUV's? |
