No I know about the light carpet - all 3 of our BMWs have it. But I could’ve sworn that the 30 I saw last week at a dealer had lights under the front doors as the pre-LCI G01.

Can someone here who owns one confirm?

Can you see them in that video ?

The LCI G01 also has puddle/projection lights, my car has them on all four doors along with the carpet light. They just got deleted from later production LCI’s along with a whole host of other features.

I think I see them in this screenshot. But I’ll wait to have someone chime in (or I’ll just check myself when I try and test drive one today.

Good to know your LCI G01 has them! I guess they were removed in later production years of the G01; they for sure removed them at the LCI cutover for the G20, and one of the things that still ticks me off to this day.

Your image above is the same as the image I posted just with the door open. It looks like the same projection at the same angle which would change if it was fitted to the door. It’s the carpet light as far as I see it.

Yeah, the projectors are "carpet lights" and not fitted under/on the door like on, say, G8X models. Can confirm.

Damn. Just did my test drive of an M50 and you’re right. But they kept a stupid cutout for it on the front door! 🤦‍♂️

Unfortunately, there is unlikely to be any wiring harness in the doors ready to accept a retrofit light even if you cut it out.

New X1 better than G45 ?

My G01 M40 is in for service, so I am driving a new X1 as a loaner. Much smaller than the X3, but I was surprised how the interior seems to be a step in material quality vs G45. Even the plastics have a better, more substantial feel. The interior is all Veganza, but it is also on the doors, dashboard top and has double stitching like the G01. One really tacky item however is to fold the rear seats, you pull on a woven strap (like a belt) at the bottom/front of the seat. Maybe this is a "MINI thing" that carried over since they share a platform. Didn't check if the G45 has same system, but I do note that the ability to lower the seats from the tailgate is gone on the G45 as well.

So HOW do you lower back seats on the G45?

As someone who has seen the CX-70/90. The thing is beyond cheap inside in areas where BMW still keeps the details high.

You just have to push in the little button things on the rear seat backs and then fold them forward.

This was gone with the G01 LCI already.

Also this was removed from the G01 with the LCI

So a few cost cuttings where made 3 years ago with the G01 LCI and are not newly introduced with the G45.

Many feature deletions had nothing to do with LCI.

Later LCI G01 models had lots of features deleted by BMW, starting around 2023.

Thankfully, many LCI G01’s have the full compliment of ambient lighting, exterior door lights, and other features. I use gesture control a lot, and would miss it, plus I like the ambient lights throughout the front and rear, even in the door storage bins. It’s also good to have the reclining rear seats for passenger comfort preference.

The trunk entry flippers for the rear seats wasn’t included in the LCI. But the cargo rails are useful, as are the carry hooks.

Also bear in mind, BMW didn’t offer some features on the G01 in the US, like nicer M Sport Seats, acoustic front glass, selective beam matrix headlights. BMW continues to gimp the headlights in the US on the G45, but there is no longer a coding option for partial/full activation.

So anyone considering a used G01, it’s important to check what BMW deleted on a specific car, otherwise you’ll get cost cutting.

Ok. Same as on my MY23 G01.

I hate that my MY23 had incremental deletions and wasn't simply a MY22 clone. About the only deletion that eventually came back for MY24 was passenger lumbar support.

MY23 X3 is arguably the worst LCI you could get for G01!

Did BMW put back the writing recognition on iDrive controller pad ? This was deleted, but I can’t recall if it was reintroduced.

Also I do t know if it’s a feature on the G45.

I could be wrong but we have yet to see a comprehensive G45 owner's review that compares it to an LCI G01!

So far, there's really nothing compelling me to stick w/BMW for my next car (but the calls from Audi and a return to leasing may be in order).

Yes, it’s a bit surprising but this is the honeymoon period, so expect lots of excitement but not much in the way of objective comparison.

I guess wait till the honeymoon and excitement is over and people have lived with the G45 for a while.

Same, here just more for less that matters to me, so a big disappointment.

Yep removed from my LCI F98 as well. That and the illumination in the door bins.

Interesting how many folks don’t know that the X1 is a MINI Countryman in disguise😏

I guess it’s a sign of the times when a UKL2 platform, the long wheel base version of UKL, is seen as having a more premium interior than the G45.

The BMW 1 & 2 Series also share this front wheel drive centric platform along with some Mini models.

With option 3DP, you get the light carpet in the rocker panel but no puddle lights. Without 3DP, you get the puddle lights in the door instead.

Surprisingly, there is actually a harness in the door panel that will function if connected. All you would have to do is push out that cover panel, disconnect the harness from the dummy panel, and connect a light.
