Race start position and tire management are critical on a circuit with this layout. Pole position held in lap 1 = driving in free air. The rest suffer more tire deg in DRS "trains" of cars chugging around with limited possibilities of overtaking. By the time Piastri finally managed to pass Verstappen ("dead front tires"), it was too late for the fast McLaren to still catch Hamilton who drove in free air throughout the whole Sprint. Norris didn't seem sufficiently focused and sounded puzzled. Special mention for Tsunoda's performance.

Just a masterclass sprint and vintage HAM in managing his tires that was the first to start degrading between the top 3. Huge momentum swing from Australia, holpfully Ferrari can carry that it into qualifying for both drivers.
Mercedes solidifying itself as the model of consistency. Faster than teams that they should be faster than, still slower than the teams they're trying to chase. RUS delivering another solid finish while Kimi starting to prove why Toto was right in putting him into the Mercedes seat. Last edited by TheBingoBalls; 03-21-2025 at 11:23 PM.. |

Not much more to add - this group of rookies are way too entertaining, re-energized Hamilton is fun to watch, this season is going to be epic.

MAX is on the second row behind the Larens who still have their wing gaps before the clampdown and RUS. Looks like a 1-2 for the papayas with MAX eventually taking RUS I expect and LEW petering out as the race progresses being caught by Charlie.

Just finished watching the sprint race and race qualifying.
Hammy drove a fantastic Sprint, managing his tyres and keeping his head cool. Max cooked his tyres trying to pass HAM and just had to let PIA pass in the end. It's the way things go. But man...I wouldn't want to be in LAW shoes right now. Terrible sprint, terrible race qualifying. And TSU...I wonder if he'll be faster in a RB. The VCARB looks like a decent car right now, and either the RB is slow and Max is just leages ahead of everyone, or the RB is just crazy tricky and only Max can deal with it...because he's Max. I must say I expected more from LEC, being the qualifying specialist he once was. It's not his weekend seemingly. And the Mercedes just looks good. The race speed still isn't really 100% there I think, despite RUS getting a front row qualifying, but tyredeg looked really good for both RUS and ANT in the sprint race. I think MERC might improve speedwise this year if they can keep that tyredeg. And ANT for sure is a welcome addition to the grid. He's fast and he's pretty consistent. He might become a future WDC. Interesting times.

It's really easy to talk about other people's predictions in hindsight if you yourself havent made a prediction for the sprint race.

The RBR second seat...where F1 careers go to die. If offered, Tsunoda should seriously consider turning it down...unless it comes with a large $ multi-year contract.
