In early 1966, Chevrolet produced the Corvette Stingray with the 427 cubic inch L72 option, which they rated at 450 hp. Partway through the model year and given auto insurance company encouragement, they reduced the rating (but not the output!) to 425 hp.

Anyone remember the Triumph Stag circa 1975 ish? Basically, ya couldn't get parts, so the car wasn't allowed to have *any* issues.

1951 Ferrari 340 America in barchetta form by Touring
Just 23 340 Americas were built in 1950-52. They had a Lampredi-designed 4.1 liter V-12 rated at 220 hp. (Note that some of those early 250s were rated at 220 hp also, but Ferrari horsepower numbers were suspect until the 1970s or so.) The 340 Americas were the first of the "big block" Ferraris. The last photo is of a 340 America berlinetta bodied by Ghia.

I was at a restoration shop open house yesterday and saw this lovely MG Magnette with a supercharged 6-cylinder engine. That's an SU carburetor sticking out up front. Also a 1958 Ferrari Tour de France; a bit rough but still at least a $3M item. |

Also gives me a chance to brush up on my detective skills as a former FBI profiler. (OK, that's not true). But, a guy in the neighborhood actually was an FBI profiler. He lurked around skeezy internet chat sites posing as a 15 year old girl. Ewwww. (That IS true) 1. Young Katherine - only goes by Katie. Loves being the center of attention. Captain of her high school cheer squad. 2nd Runner-up for Miss New Jersey. Been the weather girl for 25 years at the local ABC affiliate. 2. Although christened Robert, was always know as Bobby. (Yup. I'm gettin' a car that will attract the ladies!) Wanted to play rugby real bad - had to settle for football. Quarterbacked his team to the state championship game as a senior. Lost to a last second field goal. Scholarship to a mid-major, red-shirted his freshman year after blowing out his knee in practice. Never made it back onto the field. CEO of a regional communications firm. Drives a C7 Corvette. Red. 4. Must be older sister Susan - still goes by Susie. (Looks a bit bored here) Graduated with a degree in Home Ec from Vassar and went to a PanAm recruitment seminar on a whim. Ended up flying Asian and European routes. Married a 747 pilot. Divorced after 12 years with 2 kids. Runs a quaint coffee and muffin shop in rural Vermont. Hates travelling. 5. Harold, the studious one. Harry. (Wishes he were somewhere else at the moment) Almost scored a perfect 1600 on his SATs. Not a big risk taker. Graduated with BS in Accounting. Currently head actuary at a large insurance company. Married with 3 kids. Lives in the same house they bought 25 years ago, been paid off since 2018. Doesn't care much for cars. Drives an 8 year old Prius. 3. That's you in the bandana. The only serious gearhead in the photo. Born Beatrice, but Harry couldn't pronounce it. Just called you Bee. It stuck. A long time animal lover, you now work with American Quarter horses. Probably own an immaculate high mileage SUV that runs as good as the day you bought it. 1st time BMW owner - but didn't want to scale up through a 3 series, 4 series or 5 series. Went straight for the 8er. An exhausting nationwide search bought you to your near perfect spec. It's probably green. And..........scene. Killed it. (Although, you might just be the one on the ground.) Last edited by snowbimmer; 05-12-2024 at 02:46 PM.. |

1965 Shelby (or AC-Shelby) Cobra 289
I'm not really feeling the whitewall tires... The Cobra was produced in four groups for the U.S. market in 1962-69: -- 75 with 260 cubic inch (4.3 liter) Ford V-8s (Mark 1s) -- 51 with 289 cubic inch (4.7 liter) Ford V-8s (also Mark 1s) -- 528 Mark 2s with 289 V-8s -- 55 substantially upgraded Mark 3s with Ford 427 cubic inch V-8s (1965 to 1969) AC cars, the manufacturer of the chassis/body, also sold cars in Europe as the AC 289 until 1969.
