168.16 USD −12.43 (6.89%)today Apr 20, 10:17 AM EDT "They're backed into a corner," Ronald Jewsikow, Guggenheim Securities Vice President of Automotive Equity Research told Yahoo Finance Live after Wednesday's report. "They put a lot of supply in place that needs to find a home. And the only tool they really have is cutting prices." https://finance.yahoo.com/tesla-stoc...132505496.html Seems as though "if you build it, they will come" has hit a wall. That is part of the problem all the other manufactures have also figured out. There is want vs need. No one needs an EV, and those that want one likely already have one or can't afford it anyway. |

The elephant in the room in North AMerica is a lot of the EV's being purchased are second vehicles. Convincing households to rely on them as primary cars will take some doing, again, i see noting but PHEV being the answer.

Exactly. It's a subconscious way of getting your mind used to being f*cked with the new world of all EV while you're watching other people being f*cked.

Tesla shorts are doing well today :
162.11 USD −18.48 (10.23%)today Apr 20, 2:27 PM EDT It's a race, a race to the bottom. https://electrek.co/2023/04/20/tesla...ty-going-away/ Many Tesla fans were holding on to the idea that Tesla was reducing prices to start a price war and not because it needed to create demand. These results and the automaker’s comments yesterday confirmed what most people knew to be true: Tesla needed to reduce the price to create enough demand to match its production. Period. But at the same time, the automaker tried to explain its pricing strategy by claiming that it is banking on achieving higher profits on the vehicles it is selling right now at lower gross margins by making them self-driving and selling future software features and subscriptions. I think that’s where it is losing credibility. Musk seems to believe that people don’t understand the value that Tesla can create by making its electric vehicle self-driving. The truth is that everyone understands the value, but fewer and fewer people are starting to believe that Tesla can deliver on its full self-driving promises. That’s the issue. |

Imagine there was a town and You were the 1st person to open a Thai restaurant in the town the number of customers would show an exponential growth because you are the only one in the area. The problem being that in due course other people will open a Thai restaurant as well and may be better the competition means that even if you cut prices this level of growth will never be the same as you experienced when you were the only restaurant in town. There is a difference to this theory and that is when you have a special recipe or a special product which cannot be recreated by a competitor. The difference between kfc apple or coca cola and Tesla. Superior product and uniqueness and Tesla has neither. Ps shameless copy from Robert kiyosaki |

Tesla is brilliant with these moves and its sales figures prove it...They are letting people get a taste of Tesla at Honda Civic prices in hopes that it will lock them in as a customer for life....in most cases, it will probably work. Tesla is so much more than self driving...that is actully low down on the list that make them so great. Instant speed, no more gas, no more maintenence, one pedal driving become very addicting. I hardly ever use the autopilot feature, its too much fun driving it myself |

One of Tesla's main competitors right now in the US is Ford. These price drops really put Ford and others in a bad position. Ford had negative 40.6% margin per EV unit sold in 2022. They simply don't have ability to lower prices to match.
You have to sincerely hate Tesla to buy a MachE over a Model Y now. MachE lost half the $7500 credit. Model Y gets full credit and the recent Tesla price drop. For example, MachE GT is now effectively $13,755 more than Model Y Performance. GT model is just dead in the water. Also less range and worse performance. |

Others like the Tycan.... if ICE wasn't still a thing then MAYBE, but at that price I would rather get an ICE Porsche. None of the models come close to the range and acceleration of even the model 3 unless you get up to the over 100k range. Is handling and what not better, probably, but at double or more the cost for less range and acceleration. Again I would personally rather have the Tesla and an ICE Cayman or 911 or what not. Maybe the Ford or the Hyundais, but then you have to deal with dealers and shitty charge network (not a huge deal for me since I mostly use it local) with Ford you get the crappier 3/36 warranty. I also personally love the tech in the Tesla and all the app functions, not sure if these others have the same thing, but I know the Ford has keys and a start button and what not... no. I wish there was more out there that would compete with Tesla on price and performance because honestly I don't want to just have to buy a Tesla as my EV forever. I also wish Tesla updated their models more. Apart from the recent interior redesign of the S and X and minor facelifts the cars have basically gone unchanged since the start. |

They also haven't had to undercut their status or brand value to achieve their goals, nor have their stock tank while doing such "brilliant" moves. They have surely made their fair share of mistakes along the way. I'm just wondering why this brilliance isn't reflected in the stock price. Maybe it's just that investors are dumb.
