At least it was mainly just gains and I have... way too many more years before retirement. It'll bounce back at some point. The selection at my local stores has not changed much in the past 2 years. Any good places online, or elsewhere, that you guys source from?

If your state has organized liquor control board they will have online info that may list more items than local places stock (VT, PA do this, for examples - I'm at work and can't look for these to see about Iowa). If they do, look for whoever does 'special orders' and email them - VT can get stuff that isn't on their menu if you ask specifically. If your state isn't this organized/regimented, then get the local shops to give you the names of their distributors, then call them about special orders (that works here in NY). And if you are close enough to neighboring states to make it practical, check their prices - lots of weird variations state-to-state, so I get some stuff in VT WAY cheaper than in NY, but other items are cheaper here. I save enough to pay for the gas, and its an excuse for another run through the Adirondacks.

We're having a night here. Yesterday was the international girl's day, so I taught mine how to take down a fireplace. You can find that story from my home renovation thread but now we are enjoying the big girls night. My sister and I are taking down the remaining part of the fireplace and then the floors and if we get to it, we are painting the cieling too . We went to the liquor store and requested a wine for this occasion. Considering what we were wearing, how dusty we were and omg the Crocks.... That's the bubbly the clerk sent us home with. Not one, not two, but eight of them. She's apparently drank my special edition of coolaid. "Fuck it. We're doing this tonight." All good Tex?

Hahaha!!!!
You Go Girls!!! Good for youall. Bonding is a great thing. Especially doing it over a project such as this. All is well over here. My lovely wife is on a Girl's Trip in New York city. I'm here taking care of our boys, my grandmother and trying to stay dry. We've had record rain fall. But, it's all good. Nothing bad like the Southeast. |

So good to see you around. I would post a shot of us with the clothes we wore to buy the wine but trust me, you might want to see as ... Normal ain't our thing. I'll get back to our you when sober.

A Tripel
I decided to skip the whisky and enjoy some proper Belgium beer that I brought back with me from Europe.
One of my favorites, Tripel Karmeliet. |

Small batch is pretty good. Full Proof is excellent. I haven't tried their other offerings yet, but I will if I can find them!

I literally had the choice between this 1792 and the one I bought above. They were both recommended the same day. I am pleased with the Basil Hayden. Granted I prefer Canadian blend Whiskeys.
So I definitely want to know the tasting notes and review you have for this? Especially since I know how much you enjoy my favorite drink: Plantation XO 20. |

I like it. You can tell it's a bit stronger than my usual Gentleman Jack. It's got a sharper finish as well. I'd almost describe it as licorice, whereas the GJ is mellower.
I picked this up because the local store only had GJ in some gift box with a stainless steel cup. I didn't need the cup and didn't want to pay extra for it, and then this bottle caught my eye. I'd buy it again, but it won't replace GJ as my favorite. Sort of like the Plantation Pineapple vs the 20. The Pineapple is a nice change, but it can't replace the 20.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Knob Creek Single Barrel are my main bourbons, both barrel proof, and both with much more of the licorice and caramel overtones; wouldn't call it a sharp finish, but much more flavorful than most of the other bourbons I'd tried. Unlike Scotch, they also seem to really improve over a big ice cube to get them really cold.
