Show off Your Past Cars, and Time Slips! Bragging Encouraged Inside :)...
I was doing some "spring cleaning" today and I found a stack of about 11 Time Slips (1/4 Mile) that were over 10 years old...
Until about 7 years ago, those of us on Long Island had a great 1/4 mile + drag strip in West Hampton that was open 7 days a week during the summer, 12hrs a day (If I remember correctly)... Entry was about $10 a car for drivers, $5 for spectators, and rules were INCREDIBLY LAX. I ran my first car there at 16 years old, having only a Class CDJ (Juniors Drivers License) with no Helmet, roll cage, or any other safety precautions. That being said, having "Long Island Motorsports Park" less than a 25 minute drive from my house, I considered myself extremely lucky, and took every one of my cars there on numerous occasions, and used the track to tune the cars and really get them pumping the most power possible... So anyway, I figured I'd post the slips I found and talk about past cars I've taken down the track.. I'd encourage anyone else (I'm assuming many of you) to post some past cars, along with the slips, a mod list, and maybe even share some funny or crazy drag strip moments... I guess I'll go first.... ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- 1) CAR: 1991 Honda Accord EX ENGINE: JDM H22A 2.2L DOHC VTEC approx 220HP @ 8000 RPMS MODS: INTAKE, GREDDY EXHAUST TIRES: CRAP BEST TIME: 14.9 @ 92MPH 2) CAR: 1991 CRX Si ENGINE: JDM B16A 1.6L DOHC VTEC MODS: INTAKE, 4-1 HEADER, MSD IGNITION, 150 DRY SHOT NOS BRAND TIRES: FALKEN AZENIS ( FORGET WHICH) BEST TIME: (NO NOS) 13.8 @ 105 **With NOS I expect it to have easily been in the 12's as it was pushing about 330HP in a car that weighed 1800lbs including driver and a 1/2 tank of gas... 3) CAR: 2003 MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION VIII (8,000 miles) ENGINE: 2.0L Inline 4cyl. w/ Twin Scroll "Big 16G Turbo" @ 19psi (tapered to 14psi stock) MODS: ACT STAGE II DISC CLUTCH, HKS 2.75" DOWN PIPE, TIAL Recircul- ting BOV, Greddy Profec B Spec II Boost Controller holding approx 21psi. BEST TIME: 13.321 @ 103.64 (1.899 60 ft time) **Ran EXTREMELY CONSISTENTLY (See Photos) 13.3XX almost every time, 13.4 x's 2, 13.5 x's and WORST RUN OF 12 RUNS WAS 13.5 @ 104.63 In pics of the slips, my car is #44 and my best friends car is #52 CAR: 2004 SUBARU WRX STi (6,000+ miles) MODS: axle back 3" SLP Exhaust and the same Electric Boost Cont. as I did. it seems he may have been the better driver with slightly better 60 ft times, His ET's and traps were much worse than we expected running a best time of 13.46 @ under 105 ampjnd under 100MPH traps. **AS i said this was a base run...The EVO eventually got equipped with a 10.5 Hotside, HKS Camshafts 272* Intake / 268* Exhaust, a 3" Test-pipe welded to a 3" QTP or " Quicktime Performance Electronic Exhaust Dump", Suspension, An Injen FMIC with a much more efficient flow rate and hard i/c piping... I took it down the 1/4 @ Englishtown and ran a 12.5 @ 109mph before my shift linkage decided to come lose at the end of the track, but est. I could've gotten a low 12 sec pas out of her...(Pic of silver EVO VIII is mine at "E-Town") Anyway after 11 years the slips were a tad faded so i did my best to make them legible... And If you have old slips, track stories, 1/4 mile beasts, let's get a thread goin...Looking forward to the times....

Before I took her apart, I ran my Formula Firebird to 11.292 @ 121.52, 1.61 60'. That on a 6MT car, stock shortblock, ported stock heads, stock intake manifold, stock throttle body (intake/TB were a restriction), CC306 cam + 150 shot on pump gas. 12-bolt rear, 6-point cage, etc.
Had more left in her but there was an issue with the heads being warped and I popped a couple head gaskets. She easily had 10's in her before I took her apart. Now she is just rotting away, waiting for the forged 383 with some mean worked over AFR heads and a Procharger D1SC to be installed. One day I will get her back together - one day. |

I could never break a 1.8 60 ft on my AWD Evo, or a 2.2 60ft on my E92 M3...I did hit a 1.65 in the CRX, only because it was so light and the Falken Azenis I had were the grippiest street tires Ive ever used... Here are some pics of the Evo VIII, 91 Accord, 91 CRX Si, and my current M3...

Heres some performance #'s from my 2011 M3
While there aren't scientific, I believe they are accurate, althought the 122MPH trap may be a tad optimistic...Only because on the numbers most M3s with my mods do...
However Ive raced mid 11 sec cars w/ 120+ traps and tied or even pulled...The 12.5 @ 122 is after all mods...The other numbers were with in intake, rpi scoops, rear section only...(114-119 MPH is pretty good) and even stock I was smoking other e92 M3's even modified ones...

I took my 06 6spd GTO for the first time and was running 14s thanks to the crappy stock 235s. Fast forward a couple years with full exhaust, a very small cam (30 rwhp gain), intake and better street tires. The car would run consistent 12.6-12.7 around 111 with a 1.8-1.9 60'.
I have the time slips but not here at work, I'll upload them later in this post. Might even upload my R1 times because it is in the same stack I believe. Here is a picture of the old Goat: Last edited by Vigilante375; 03-23-2015 at 01:22 PM.. |

I know you don't have pics of the slips, but what about the car itself??? Honestly I'm shocked mine were still even legible, as usually they fade after just a few months...

I knew the 9 had more TQ & HP, but from all the numbers, stats, and " life experience", while the 6 speed is faster around a circuit track, it is slightly slower down the 1/4 due to an extra shift being required. I didn't even know they made a 5 speed after the 8, I guess you learn something new everyday... You know I never even heard of the SE, lmao...I had two friends with 9 MR's and I thought the "base" EVO 9 was just called the base model. Thanks for the info... But throw the pics up if u find em bro.

Not really. A baby cam like the one I had is a very small gain. Usually you can get 50rwhp and more from a "normal" cam. Putting on a different set of headers can net you 20-30rwhp.
It would be nice we could swap the cams in our engine. But have said doing so won't net any gains.....thats a bunch of bull. |

At the end of the day extracting every bit of power is all about finding and improving the weakest link in the chain so to speak, and with the S65 pushing over 100HP per liter, there just aren't many weak points...Seems like the only thing really "de-tuned" from BMW is the exhaust system for emission purposes. One thing I'd like to know more about is BMW's VANOS system. I know it affects the cams at higher RPM's but do you know if it actually increases lift & duration, or only timing?
