BMW Group U.S. Reports March 2015 Sales
  • BMW brand up 6.9 percent, sets first quarter sales record
  • MINI brand sales up 59.5 percent
  • BMW Motorcycle sales increase 3.0 percent

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – April 1, 2015… Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 6.9 percent in March for a total of 34,310 compared to 32,107 vehicles sold in March, 2014.

“We are seeing a growing confidence and optimism among consumers across the country and for BMW the result is record sales in the first quarter of this year,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The record first quarter is especially satisfying as BMW of North America is celebrating its 40th Anniversary at the New York Auto Show this week and we are looking forward to the months ahead.”

In March, notable vehicles sales included the BMW 3 / 4 series which increased sales 46.6 percent to 14,835 vehicles and the BMW 2 series increased 124.2 percent to 1,249 vehicles.

BMW Group Sales
The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported March sales of 40,139 vehicles, an increase of 12.2 percent from the 35,762 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
In March, sales of BMW used vehicles (including certified pre-owned) decreased by 22.5 percent, to 14,956 vehicles compared to the 19,301 vehicles sold in March, 2014.

MINI Brand Sales
For March, MINI USA reports 5,829 automobiles sold, an increase of 59.5 percent from the 3,655 sold in the same month a year ago.

Nothing that really stands out here. Base 320's are as common as Camry's where I live.

Wondering why BMW is struggling with the smaller/midsized SAV and crossover type vehicles (X1 and X3). That X4 could use some love too.

The 320i, in my opinion, is underrated and I'm not talking about HP. Got one as a loaner and was impressed on how capable it was. Also had a chance to drive a 328i and aside from the power (yes it's noticeable but not needed to the average driver), they're the same car. Would I get a 320i? Probably not because it lacks the options I would want, but for someone looking for a capable all-rounder/daily driver that doesn't care for bells and whistles (aside from xenon's and maybe navigation), the 320i should get consideration.

Lexus RX. Take away the driving aspect from the X3, the Lexus RX (and soon NX) does everything most people want - it's better value.

X3 sales are way down.

I think the Q5 sales are killing them.

All 3, X3, Q5 and GLK are pretty much on par with each other.

Since 2011 (rounded):

X3: 32,000
Q5: 29,000
GLK: 30,000

Really? I'd say they're the rarest of all three. I see more F30 335i's than I do 320i's.

The 328i however...

I have nothing against the 320i. In fact, if it had standard power seats, not inferior base audio compared to the 328/335, and offered M sport, ect. - I'd probably have gotten that instead. At the end of the day, the reality is that what sets apart the 320 from the 328 isn't just 60HP.

There are too many 3/4 series in general...that's why I'm turning mine in at the end of my lease in 2 months and ordered an X6 (only i8 and Z4 sell less).

I'm wondering if the next generations of X1 and X3 have anything to do with this? I've noticed significantly less stock at my dealer lately, so at least here, sales are down because they have less to sell. X4 came out mid-cycle, to me it was dead on arrival.

i8 and Z4 don't compete with 3 and 4 series, but if you bought a BMW for exclusivity, then that's kind of silly. i8's look amazing though!

You bought a 3 Series to be "exclusive"?

I didn't say they compete, I was simply comparing the sales figures of the i8 and Z4 to X6, not 3/4 Series.

I didn't buy the 3 Series or X6 for exclusivity, I would say it's a bonus to the X6 compared to a 3 Series. I bought the 3 Series because it was cheap and the X6 because I like its ugliness.

That is their new model the NX, which is based on the Rav-4.

This is the new RX.

The X1 stands out to me. Seems too low compared to how many I see here in New York. They are VERY popular here.

Is it true the new X1 will be based on the active tourer platform (i.e. FWD base)?
