The End of Tunes?
Automakers want to use copyright law to keep you from modifying your car. I expect this would apply mainly to tunes.

Apple tried this when people jailbroke their phones.
It's not gonna happen.

Seems like a pointless write up that IMO. There is no way that manufacturers are going to chase down all their customers and sue all the ones who have modified to maintained their own cars. One would assume under this 'law' that the article is proposing the manufacturers 'want'; this would also mean that independent garages would have to close too as they aren't main dealer?
Over here in Europe, the EU laid out that manufacturers had to honour their warranties, no matter where the car was serviced (so long as genuine parts were used). This was to give the consumer more freedom, so they didn't have to pay extortionate main dealer prices. |

Not going to happen.
Its just a way for them to get money back into their pockets. Why do I need to pay $500 for repair job when I could do it myself for $100 and probably a better job? So they basically want to totally screw their customers over. Its you buy this new car and pay whatever we say to get it repaired and not do any modifications to it, even if they are for the better good or go buy a used car that isn't covered under our provisions. How about they stop adding all of this electronic crap, like Wifi and 4G LTE, into the vehicles? Vehicles were just fine without them. Now its just something else to cause someone to crash. Or if they are afraid someone is going to hack into the system, just make its on another ECU/ECM that can't be hacked. I'm sure they know their cars better but that doesn't give them the right to try and make it so we, the consumer (the owner), can't work on it. Now, some people do not need to work on their own vehicles....thats a totally different story. |

I don't know if it will happen, but it would be a sad day if it does. Auto manufacturers will not be chasing down their customers. The focus will be on those who produce tunes.
