Picked up gti yesterday.
Just traded in Hyundai Veloster turbo 6MT to get VW GTI DSG as DD, and I gotta say it is pretty impressive. Of course, it does not feel like M4 in any measures, but I think VW has done really good job with this transmission. When driving in sport mode, the shifting point is almost at 5500 rpm, which I really liked. Haven't done anything to my m4 yet besides a few cosmetic mods and was thinking about jb4 or dinan, but I think I am going to try to have a little fun with this little guy first. With APR stg 2, you are looking at 340 hp and 400 tq which is awesome!

I would personally prefer the GTI for daily duties. If I could have 2 cars, my DD would be a GTI. The M4 could absolutely be a terrific DD, and it is. But there is more than one correct answer to that question as we know.

Good car but it's "Wrong Wheel Drive". good luck trying to put that power down. I used to have a mazdaspeed 3 and couldn't make full use of the power.

GTI is a great daily driver. Really fun little car. If my ZHP blew up and I had to buy something right away, I would head in and pick up a Mk7 GTI in a heartbeat.
Congrats! |

I looked at both when we were shopping for a DD for my better half a few months ago, and GTI was leading the pack as the most desirable choice as far as I was concerned. Fun car to drive, practical, rock solid. I was seriously looking at a Golf R, but it was simply n/a in the US for 2015 model year. Even if you were to pay MSRP, they were all sold out. VW's MY'16 production starts in September, so timing was way off. Then we took a wrong turn in Albuquerque, and leased an i3-REX. Still not sure how we went from GTI to an i3, but there you have it. a

Kind of liking the Golf R more for that reason, but agree it is hard to stomach a $40K "inexpensive car". |

Haha. I used to love the torque steer on the mazdaspeed. Incidentally I recently picked up a 2004 Golf 2.0 as my winter beater. It is slow but fun as hell cuz it's stick. I pretty much never lift

Love the GTI!
I grew up on these things, and my VR6 was my first true love (apologies to my wife)....I'll always have a soft spot for them. They have a great community of enthusiasts as well. When I was on the A9 last week, one was following me for an hour and finally into a gas station (looked just like yours, too) and even though there was a language barrier, he was thrilled to see an M3 and was all smiles. I totally get what you're saying about your DD situation as well. I have a bit of this as well, and may continue to use the Grand Cherokee as the primary DD for those same reasons, even though gas mileage is worse (and far less fun). Congrats, I love it

Nice car but I would of gone with R.....also what's the deal with having 2 coupes.
If you own a small business and want to go low profile, Camry would of been your friend. Just sayin.......

As a huge VW guy, and previous R and GTI owner, you're going to have a blast. Very fun cars to drive, that's for sure.

We bought a GTI w/6MT last month and had the APR Stage 1 installed already. Made an already fun little car a complete blast. Totally different animal from the M4 or my husband's Boss 302, but still a blast.
