GoPro: Hero+ LCD or Hero4 Silver?
Hey guys!
I currently have an old Hero 2 GoPro with car mount (suction cup), and I'm looking to getting another GoPro as a replacement/addition. I was wondering if the $100 price increase for the Hero4 Silver is worth it over the Hero+. Not sure the timeline for GoPro cameras either... so if something new (Hero5?) is on the horizon, should I wait for the Silver to become cheaper or pony up for the new one when it comes out? I have a DSLR (Nikon D7000) and my Hero2 still works fine, so I'm not in a rush to purchase. Thanks guys!

There is a new GoPro Hero4 Sessions... but the reviews are not that great. I also have a Hero3 Black and a Hero4 "basic"(its hard to go wrong at $120). But what I don't like about the basic is the camera has a builtin battery and is permanently mounted inside the waterproof case. No external mic or mini-HDMI ports either.
I think the Hero4 Silver makes the most sense IF you have some GoPro mounts already. Checkout my GoPro thread here.. (for some comparisons) http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=810802&page=6 GoPro Hero4 Sessions... Hero4...

Ya I would get the Hero 4 silver if you do not care about 4k at the proper frame rate or being able to do 1080p at 120fps. When I get a second gopro I will get a Hero4 silver. You can find them used in great conditions from great sellers on Fredmiranda.com or on photgraphy-on-the-net.com
My brother just got a basic hero and I told him to take it back since I cant even sync them together with mine since I film at 120fps or 60 at the mine and that camera cant do either. Basically do not waste your money on the basic hero unless you only want it to get basic video at 1080p and you do not worry about audio quality and will just overlay music to the video instead. Or if you think there is a high chance the camera will get lost or damaged. I think it is the one most use when they want to get those crazy shots of things crashing or blowing up and they do not want to destroy a 500 dollar gopro. Look on their site and compare all the different ones side by side in there comparison page. Get the 4 silver at a min. You can see a sample video in my link to my youtube page. I have a night time video I did in my car. I will get more vids up soon once it cools down here in Socal. |

Ya I think it will be your best bet, and I will be looking for a used one since a lot of people buy them thinking they are going to do these cool things with them but they never do so they sell them after a month.

got the hero4 silver, 4k is not as enticing for me as i don't think it's that much common yet, i don't even have a 4k display to watch it on. i'm not pro, just a hobby and like to capture special moments lol 1 infant and 1 toddler are probably my main subjects

It all depends on what you are shooting, the quality you're expecting and features you must have.
I have a 4 Black and love it. I shoot all of my stuff in 4K even though I really dont "need" to but it looks great on my 4K monitor at least. I'd say the most common and still great quality shot is done in 1080p @ 60FPS. If that's the route you want to go and depending on what you want to do with it, then get the cheapest camera that shoots it. The Hero+ is great but doesnt have a removable battery though. For me that is a deal breaker. Otherwise I'd have like 4 of them. The Hero 4 Silver is priced competitively and basically you're paying for the LCD screen plus the other shooting options. Personally, I think you'd like the Hero 4 Silver more as the LCD screen will help you frame your shots better and you'll be more inclined to record things when you know they turn out great. |
