Welp, here is the proof!
http://www.leftlanenews.com/mercedes-benz-c63-amg.html "There is no doubt that Mercedes-Benz is squarely taking aiming at BMW's M3 with its all-new C63 AMG Sedan, and that rivalry will be reflected in the car's price. Mercedes has announced that its C63 AMG will come with a base sticker price of $53,800 — the exact same price of entry for BMW's M3 sedan." |

Exactly. They waited after Lexus to announce prices.

Which makes you wonder how much the next RS4 will cost...

they're about brute force and in your face aggressive styling, both of which the C63 has tons of.

Yep. Sure is nice we have choices. There is a lot of overlap between the market each is after (M3/C63), but both BMW & Merc have different angles for getting their purists.

Yeah I don't think we need another M3. Choice is nice.

You said it bro. I like the fact that the RS4, C63 and M3 behave in different ways.

Second, the B7 RS4 was meant to compete with the E46 M3, not the E90. The B8 RS4 will go after the e90 M3, and by usual RS fashion, it should have about 50 or so more ponies than the M3. At the end of the day, you can thank Audi for constantly raising the bar model after model; the RS division is making the current HP war accelerate faster than any other factor.
