The EPA wants to make it illegal to modify your car for racing.
My apologies if this has been posted already. I did a cursory search and didn't see anything on the subject.

EPA Set to Ban Conversion of Steet Cars to Race Cars

This is sick. All modifications of factory emissions equipment would be banned.

Honestly, I agree with this. Folks, for years, have been getting away with defeating and disabling emissions controls on cars under the premise that they are doing it for "off road use only". We all know that is BS and that the majority of the time these cars are not track-only cars but rather are driven primarily on the street with these modifications installed.

Yes, I am serious. We all need to live here and that is why we have clean air laws in the first place. Why do you feel you are not subject to those laws?
Perhaps it should be changed to something like this. If you wish to purchase a product that is meant only to be used in track and off-road circumstances then you must surrender your registration so the car cannot be driven on the street. You are buying a product that is only legally allowed to be used off road anyway, why would you need registration then?

This would also have a very detrimental effect on aftermarket manufacturers and distributors. It would be very bad for our economy in LA.

The aftermarket guys are the ones who are fighting it. It would likely outlaw NASCAR as well.

It just irritates me when people think that they can simply ignore a law. It relates a sense of entitlement and arrogance that is unacceptable. If you don't like a law, then work to change it. I don't go around shooting people who annoy me in the head because I disagree with the laws against murder. Similar concept.

I am interested in hearing some perspective other than SEMA (represents every group that has most to lose) as to what the regulation really means.
The "this product is intended for off road use" that reality everyone knows is used for on road is a joke. Also, if my goal is to really create a race car and remove everything and the car will never be used again on the road I see no way for it to be enforced and my guess is reality is they have no interest in trying to enforce it on these limited use, small group of cars.

Lol! I did not say I do not stretch the laws as well. My point is that complaining about someone enforcing the law is futile and a little childish. If I am pulled over for speeding and am issued a ticket, I will step up and accept it like a man. I took the risk and I must own the consequence.

Yes because a car you drive once a month is of such great concern. I would lobby my total emissions should be recorded along with said proposers car and see who releases more emissions in the course of a month, year. My car should be allowed to have higher emissions as a rule because it only drives 2k a year.

On the original post: It's not even law yet, and we live in America - hence why I'm objecting to such further over reaching proposed "rules" or "laws". What's being proposed is flat out making it illegal to make or sell such components, regardless if they are used in an off-road / race vehicle only, and effectively bans any "race car" conversions. That means if I buy an old E36 M3 and want to get into NASA / SCCA, etc. it would then be illegal to modify any of the emissions equipment. Furthermore, in many states, off-road ("race") vehicles are exempt from registration requirements already. What you're proposing is already the case. |

Here we are talking CO2 emissions and yet EPA doesn't want to address the gross pollution of animal agriculture. Apparently they want to focus on droplets in the bucket when there is a running faucet nearby. The power of lobbyists.
