Picture this
A couple nights ago, the wife and I valet parked the M at the chosen venue for dinner (no, I don't let them drive it anywhere). My car was parked behind a sparkling white Lamborghini Gallardo. And it's a sweet looking car: The M4 is stylish, and striking and all, but...Lambo.
Then the couple walks out to it, and hop in. The woman is fairly young, pretty hot. The guy...is not. But hey, Lambo! Then he starts the car, goes to pull out - stall. D'oh! That's ok - Lambo! Stall #2...ouch, the cool factor did in fact just drop. Stall # 3...now there's a guy shooting video of this poor b*stard trying to move. He finally gets moving at lucky try #6, by which time I'm thinking "Dude, my car is behind you, don't accidentally put it in reverse..." It's now clear this is a rental Lambo (plates weren't new). Which also leads one to conjecture about another possible, uh, rental in this scene. Anyway, after this debacle we hop in the shiny grey M4, put down the top, and happily roll out. So the moral of this story is, it isn't the size of the "engine" that matters, it's whether you can drive it Cheers (ok, the size of the engine sorta matters)

What did I just read?
BTW how can you tell it was a rental by just the plates? You said the "plates where not new". I know in NJ (and most states) you have the option to transfer your plates from your old car to your new, when you do a trade in.. How do you know he didn't do that? |

Oddly, that didn't occur to me given the neighborhood we live in has a fair amount of P cars, Maseratis, Bentleys and a new i8 mixed in with the normal cars. I know lots of guys with pricier cars than mine, and almost all of them are perfectly nice. Anyway, guess it was a sight gag and I didn't describe it well. Thanks for your opinions.

the first car meet i ever went to i had a crappy modified v6 mustang. when i was getting ready to leave i was feeling nervous by how many nice cars were next to me and that i was the only one that pulled forward into my spot. of course as i attempt to reverse out people are observing my idiot exhaust and i let the clutch out too fast and killed it. i audibly heard ohhs and laughter. it was a real shitty feeling.

Good story OP, I enjoyed it. More importantly, I agree with you, if you're going to have a car like that, you better know how to drive it... Who knows maybe he borrowed it from a family member...yikes

Probably not the case w/this guy, but I hope you get the point. We all started somewhere. Maybe he just bought it & is still learning the car. Karma, boys, karma. Treat others how you want to be treated. |

^ THIS is the most useful reply from someone who has a beef with this thread.
Fair enough, I agree with your karma point. Remember though that a) I kept it anonymous, b) made sure to hide my amusement in front of the actual guy so as not to embarrass him further, and c) put it on a forum where the driver is unlikely to see it. But, valid comment.

I'd feel more confident that he just purchased the car from a used exotics dealer and hasn't owned a manual, especially not an exotic car with a manual, (generally harder to get rolling, clutch isn't as friendly) before.
Not everyone can be as cool or infallibly excellent drivers as F82 drivers.

When I tracked my M135i, a very flashy red Aventador SV turned up with an extremely young Chinese driver and his other half. We all drooled at it but... It failed that noise test and he had to rent an Ariel Atom! He was a very good driver though!

Dunno, I'd rather drive the Atom at a track.
