Credit card fraud

Let me start by stating that I f@&king hate thieves with a passion.

So today got a call from my credit union. They wanted to verify some charges on my cc/debit card to see if they were legit. The first 6 transactions she asked about were not done by me. Obviously I was concerned at this moment. Whoever it was managed to charge a little over $200 on my card. I know it's not a whole lot......but $200 is $200. The cc number has since been disabled. I'm glad that my CU called to verify these charges were legit or these motherf@&@kers could empty out my account. The only way I see that someone was able to get my cc number and security code is through online purchases. The problem/concern with that is that the last several online transactions I have conducted, in the last several weeks, were through vendors that a lot of us utilize from this forum. I'm not going to name those vendors to avoid any possible legal issues......and also I don't have proof that any of their employees had anything to do with it. That being said, beware of all these f@&king thieves. They should all be burned at the stakes and I want to be the one to light the fire.

Did I mention I f@&king hate thieves?

I once got a call from my Amex asking if I was currently in Greece. Told them no and they said a SWIPED transaction was made over there... So my card was cloned. Not sure how but it was for the equivalent of 800 USD. No idea how it could've possibly happened but it did.

Welcome to the club. I've had my CC stolen or duped 3 times. My very first CC never made it to me. Some post office asshat stole it and used in it NYC. They caught that idiot. The other two times were small purchases that the thieves make to see if they get away with it before going for bigger sums. That's why I check my CC charges online at least 2 or 3 times every week.

Who cares? I do. Suppose you wouldn't care if someone stole your car cuz insurance would cover it?

It's still a huge hassle changing CC numbers if you pay several bills with it.

I have my cc accounts setup so that I get a notification every time a charge is made. At least I should know right away when something goes amiss.

I will be going that route if my cu has the ability to do it. I feel lucky (funny to say feel lucky after one gets money stolen from them) in that it they didn't clear out my entire account and that my cu called me to check the charges. All the charges were conducted today. Will be visiting the cu tomorrow.

Happened to me a couple times. Once happened on a Holliday weekend and I didn't have any cash on me and my card was frozen until it could be resolved after the Holliday... That fucking sucked.

Good reason to have a couple Franklins tucked away in your wallet. Yes, that situation would definitely suck.

My wife and I keep our money in a few accounts now, and a couple credit cards active. At the time we had 1 joint account and no credit cards.

Most of the times this happens at gas station pumps. Did you swipe your credit card at any gas stations recently?

The worst place in the world for this type of thing is south florida by the way.

No. I typically pay with cash. When I don't have cash on me I use my banks ATMs. Pretty anal about it. And usually I only keep enough in my checking to make planned purchases. All my funds are kept in my savings so that if something like this did happen they were limited to a small amount of my funds.

Just happened to me over the weekend. Pretty sure it was somehow stolen after making a purchase on rugsusa.com. The day after, someone used my card and ran $675 at progressive insurance. And then tried again for another $1000 at progressive which the cc company declined. They then called me to ask me about these questionable charges.

This was on my Usd credit card and I live in Canada.

Brutal. Really annoying having to deal with it. Spent an hour and half on the phone including hold time (which was about 1hr) . Then I have to get new cards with new numbers issued, which is also annoying because I have quite a few auto payments that get charged monthly so I have to go to each company and update the card info. On a good note, I am reimbursed fully so I'm not out of pocket anything, but it's annoying and time consuming dealing with everything else.

It's annoying and some would feel violated. But as mentionned, cc insurance cover frauds, so why should I care so much? I don't, there's so much more in life to care about. I also don't feel bad for them, it's built on their business model to have with it, not to mention they enslave billions of people with 20% interests on amounts they know people can't pay.

Going to my cu tomorrow to fill out some paperwork. Hopefully I can recover the lost funds. Not sure that's possible.

This happened to me about two weeks ago.

Four and half grand for flights from Saudi Arabia.

It's no such that it's covered by insurance it's the fact that I have to change all the direct debits coming out of the card.

Fuckers!
