This marks the inception of BMW’s vision of an intelligent, highly personalized world of digital services that integrate the vehicle seamlessly into the life of the consumer. Putting consumers and their personal needs at the heart of this vision, services will be available anytime, anywhere – in or outside of the vehicle. The BMW Group’s approach to mobility with this digital companion, powered by the Open Mobility Cloud is at the forefront of the automotive industry. Never leave late again. Reaching your destination easily, comfortably and punctually constitutes a basic need of everyday mobility. Traffic conditions change quickly so access to real-time information is important. BMW Connected provides estimated travel times in and outside the vehicle for your routine or planned destinations. Based on traffic conditions, you will be notified when it’s time to leave, on your iPhone or Apple Watch. As BMW Connected learns your typical travel times between frequent destinations, notifications are provided when the trip will take longer than usual. Keep family and friends informed of your likely arrival time from your smartphone or inside the vehicle by sending a pre-formatted text message auto-populated with your arrival time. All your destinations in one place - intelligently. Mobility starts before you get into the vehicle and continues after you exit. BMW Connected makes the end-to-end journey simpler and more pleasurable so you arrive stress free. Search easily for points of interest or destinations in BMW Connected, a maps app or your favorite third party app and add them to your BMW Connected profile. Calendar events with addresses are automatically imported to simplify your daily planning. Nearby authorized BMW centers, convenient fueling and charging stations as well as parking locations are available with one click. Frequent and recent destinations are learned and stored for quick future access and estimated travel times are shown at a glance. As learning continues, BMW Connected starts to predict your next destination to surface current travel times for easy decision-making. To start in-car navigation, connect your smartphone to your BMW or send the destination in advance. BMW Connected allows easy access to all your places both in-car and on your smartphone to quickly re-use destinations and check drive times. BMW Connected completes the journey by providing an easy way to start ‘last mile’ walking guidance from your parking spot to your final destination on your smartphone. Seamless integration with your BMW A key element of BMW Connected is the seamless integration with vehicles equipped with BMW ConnectedDrive. It’s quick and easy to stay in touch with your BMW with remote functionality using your smartphone. Lock the doors, flash the lights, sound the horn and start ventilation remotely. For BMW plug-in hybrid models, view battery state of charge, electric range and hybrid range to ensure that you’re prepared. The Open Mobility Cloud – Azure provides the foundation. Mobility needs are unique, personal and an important part of everyday life. BMW envisions the future of mobility as seamless integration of everyday devices and touchpoints along with relevant services that enable safe, smart and delightful experiences in and outside the vehicle. The Open Mobility Cloud is at the core of delivering on this vision and already powers the BMW Connected experience today BMW created the Open Mobility Cloud, which drives rapid innovation around customer needs using Azure and Azure Services. The platform is based on state-of-the art cloud technology to work in the background on behalf of BMW consumers to deliver contextual, personalized services just as the need arises The platform offers far-reaching capabilities for machine learning and data analysis. The service utilizes many Microsoft services, including HDInsight, Windows SQL, IoT Event Hubs, Machine Learning, Apps Insight and many more. With these intelligent tools, the more frequently users make use of the digital services, the more effectively they can be personalized. In addition, the Microsoft platform will allow developers to more easily interoperate innovative applications, data and IoT services into the OMC. Too little too late? Seems like a nice try, but iOS already does a lot of this with transit direction timing? I wonder if integration into the foundational iOS platform would have been an easier approach?

BMW has always had an odd love affair with apple. It was such a turnoff years ago. I guess I don't really care anymore.
That is all.

I think BMW's execution of apps has been incredibly lackluster and it was never rolled out at a global level.
When I used connected drive in Germany, it was completely different than in the US. Both were local to market vehicles as well. Separate apps on separate country app stores. How about a Global app with device localization driving language? An OTA vehicle update to add any features unique to the vehicle. They had a great opportunity for global adoption, but it's really lacking features and accessibility. |

the current connected app takes forever to send to the car. will this be faster than the 2 minute delay?

Replacement for BMW Remote not Connected
Just tried it out on my car.
New Connected app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bmw-...087277146?mt=8 Old Connected app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bmw-...406975118?mt=8 My BMW Remote app: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/my-b...387675830?mt=8 The new Connected app is really a replacement for My BMW Remote. I'm not sure who is in charge of design and implementation of apps, but they need to work on integration and user experience. There is no need for a 3rd app that only replaces one of the two existing apps. For example, the new Connected app still requires the old Connected app to see calendar information in iDrive. Cool another app that I'm sure is as slow and bad as the others. No new car access features (remote start would be nice), just some travel time recommendations. Too bad I can't even try it, android user here.

ConnectedDrive is perhaps the most hyped yet useless things ever. For the life of me, I can't understand why BMW keeps pushing it like it's a big deal. Even the connecteddrive website isn't terribly clear on what the service is actually supposed to be...
Wow, I can send an address to my navigation system from my phone or computer or pay extra for internet access or concierge services. Whoopee. Can anyone explain to me what I'm missing? |

I use the BMW remote for directions to a destination. However why does it have to send it over a 3G connection? Why can it not justtransfer the destination by Bluetooth for by plugging it in?

Sending to car used to take minutes on my F30. Takes a second or two on my '16 F82. Thanks LTE.

Once you have the destination on your phone (from the location field in the Calendar appointment or by searching within the app), your options to send the location to the car are: (1) connect phone to car using a USB cable or (2) via (wifi/cell) network.

I like how BMW is constantly trying to improve iDrive/ConnectedDrive. Sure, the execution may be a bit rough but at least they're always trying to refine it. But we can see why BMW is hesitant to allow CarPlay - BMW would rather provide as many features as CarPlay than to go the CarPlay route, keeping everything in-house.

BMW Remote app worked quite well for me for sending addresses to the car and I quite like the feature. Not sure I'll pay for it after the 4 years but that's a ways away for now. I'm glad they have created this new app that so far not only looks a lot better on my iPhone 6s but also feels far smoother/faster. Looking forward to the new features that come...
