I hope I don't need a Lego 918 to get this one.

I'm a big fan of Lego and my kids love it too but I have to say I brought my kids the Megabloks Porsche GT3 a few years back and that looked a little more like a car than this one.

That's a good looking model for sure, but not necessarily an apples/oranges comparison. It uses specially molded pieces for the fenders, hood, and greenhouse that are very specific to that set. Also, the Technic lineup is more about functionality hence the working steering, gearbox, suspension, and H6 motor. They tend to stray from the traditional brick with these models and instead use beams and panels that connect with pins in order to offer larger-sized models that use less parts but are still structurally sound. Check out the Lego Mini Cooper and Ferrari F40 for sets that use bricks for a much more realistic appearance.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about the orange. I'll definitely buy it probably the first day, but I don't think it even compares to the test mule car they used to first announce the Porsche:

Now THAT would have probably been the best LEGO set ever produced if they stuck with that scheme. The camo stickers are bad ass. There's a video out there talking about this new GT3 that indicates this is the first supercar out of a potential series. Fingers crossed that's true. This is an awesome scale for LEGO.

Lego sets just keep getting better and better. Wish it was not as expensive - at $300 it is too expensive for me.

If this is going to be $300 then that's not too bad relatively speaking as the Lego Enzo is selling for £455 on Amazon at the moment.

Yeah, I thought that was a very cool idea too - using the camouflage for the pre-release model.

The nice thing about Lego is that you can customize it however you want. I think the only new exterior parts for this model are the fenders, so for the most part you could obtain everything in black (or white) and, with a little work, re-create the test-mule look. For the fenders you'd either need to wait until those parts are available in the proper color, or you could just wrap them fully to hide the orange.

Just finished a couple days ago. I built this very slowly over the course of three weeks or so and savored every moment.

I'm not a hardcore technic builder but I was quite impressed and enjoyed the building process.

Would you say that the time to build / entertainment value + the finished product is worth the cost?
