2017 Jaguar XE R-SPORT

What is everyones thoughts on the new Jaguar XE coming out. I've read its rolling out in May in US and reviews all seem very positive so far. I love the sound of it, styling, and suppose to be excellent handler. It has low seating position, nice choice of wheel options and exterior details, and can be loaded up with a lot of features unlike some in this class. Looks like something different from the usual 3 series, c class, a4 you see everyday on the road.

I think it will be interesting but question is if it can unseat the Germans with I doubt that will be the case, even if its a bang up job.

The A4, C-Class are pretty new, filled with Tech. The 3 Series is soon to be replaced within the next 24 months so, it will be interesting to see how the benchmark will move between now and then.

But if Jag drops the supercharged V8 in it, I would consider it. Even the upcoming RS4

Yea it will be interesting to see where 3 series goes for sure. I like the new a4, but doesn't seem like current released offerings are a match for the sportiness of the xe with supercharged v6 (same as f type). The C class is very nice and has tech also, but just not my style really. I just am liking the direction Jaguar is going and it seems like they have good lease deals and they now have best in class warranty/maintenance. Seems like they have the more sporty "raw" edge to there lineup

if R means 5.0 v8 from the f type then I'm interested. If "r sport" is like bmw "m sport" or "m performance" with mostly body kits and stickers then... No thanks

If im going to make practicallity compromise by buying the jag (lack of dealer network, questionable reliability) , i want it to look and sound very special like f type. Xe looks super blend. Esp the rear and side profile looks cheap. Interior doesnt even come close to c class or new a4. This car doesnt bring anything new to the table.

Are you sure the new 3 series will be introduced in ~24 months? Seems more like 36-48 months as M4 will be selling in current form until summer of 2020.

M4 like the 4 series is on a different production cycle then the F80 and 3 Series.. The 3 series have been on sale since 2011/2012

Mods please correct me but I believe the F80/3 Series ends production on 10/18, crazy to think in 3 months the 2017s will be in production, so in concept no reason the next gen 3 series wouldn't be announced sometime in 2017( my guess no later than the 1st quarter of 2017 if not the last quarter of 2016).. Would be my guess, its when all the Big Auto Shows are popping.

Right. So really the next generation model is still 30 months away.

That's probably a bit early. I wouldn't expect BMW to release anything official about the new G20 3 Series until sometime in 2018. My recollection from last time is that the F30 debuted officially in late 2011 at a special event that was live streamed over the Internet.

I had high hopes for this car. Saw it at the auto show in NY (well the highest level version available now) and I think it's a let down. The outside has a simple shape and reminded me of a fusion but even that I could forgive since the design is still nice. But the interior materials especially on the door panels is downright cheap. You have to sit in it to understand but they went very downmarket. I know that they will have entry level models that will be inexpensive but the material quality is a non-starter for me.

The XE- R sport has the same engine as base V6 f type. It is known as XE-S in other countries and is confusing as R in US means V8 top of line. I'm guessing R-"sport" is Jaguars take on M performance vehicles. Most reviews I've seen on it state that it is now the class leader for handling and driving feel. I never keep my cars past 2-3 years so would lease anyways. Jag has great free maintenance plan and seems like good lease rates. Just another option for us and more competition is always better

That's dissapointing to hear regarding cheaper interior materials... Noticed dash is leather wrapped and I'm guessing is cheaper vinyl/ leatherette for cost.

I don't remember the dash tbh. But looking online you can see all the hard surfaces.

Whats amazing is its still heavier than steel body 3 series lol. Kinda defeats the purpose for aluminum.

quick google shows about the same weight range, with the top spec AWDs being a hair under 3,800 and the base rwd 4cyl being 3,400 ish.

My 335 xdrive is under 3,700 lbs (3,680 if I recall). Point is still there - it's aluminum and still heavier.

I wouldn't worry about the 200 lbs over an M3 though. To me it was the cheap interior materials. I don't mind small differences but it was just too down market to my eyes.

I saw this IRL at some viewing event. Aesthetically, it's the best in its class. The interior is amazing and is pretty simple for what it is. I love the Alcantara (there's a good amount of it) on the seats with the bolsters (thigh and body) being leather. Steering wheel is okay but that's because BMW always makes the best steering wheels for mass produced cars. Rear end was meh but the front, side profile, and the small details like the side skirts are beautiful.

If I'm in the market for a 4 door "compact" sedan, this would be in my radar.

Unfortunately, no one started the car for everyone to hear.

If only we got it with three pedals. I'd even deal with the RHD.

V8 RWD and 3 pedals and it's a winner. Wait and see. Jag did the S/C V6 RWD Manual for the F-type. It's a possibility for the XE, wishing for the V8 may be a bit far fetched. Can't hurt to hope.

Already I like it better than the BMW/Merc/Audi offerings. Very stylish. I'll go check one out at the local dealer as soon as I can find time.

Not concerned with interior materials as long as it's better than what the Americans put out. Still totally unimpressed with quality of US interiors. And that's even comparing them to my "cheap" (as others here on bimmerpost say) 1 series interior.

Drove it. Liked it. But not 2x the lease payment of a 340.
