I've tossed around the idea of doing this before, but not nearly all the shows I watch were available on either so I passed.
I'd still need to keep Comcast for internet, but removing cable would still lower my bill by a good bit. What I'm wondering is if there is any listing of what CURRENT TV shows or networks Hulu and/or Netflix currently do or do not have. Also, just how limited is the "limited commercial" option on Hulu & can you not FF through them? Last edited by Never_Enough; 11-03-2016 at 03:53 PM.. |

Here's a search engine that allows you to search major streaming services for your favorite shows.
https://www.justwatch.com If you find yourself having to subscribe to multiple streaming services just to fulfill your watching needs, odds are you might be paying just as much as cable. You also have to keep in mind that the latest episodes on shows, such as The Walking Dead, aren't simucasted on Netflix so you will have to go directly to AMC to watch new shows as they air. |

If you like to watch sports at home, I would say no. Otherwise, you can go for it. Personally, I watch too many sports for it to be worthwhile (F1, MLB, NBA, NFL).

Depending on where you live you can often get local content and prime channels like ABC, NBC etc Over The Air (OTA), in HD, with just an inexpensive antenna like this-

I did it (Hulu Plus and Netflix) and it doesn't bother me. I also found myself watching mostly sports on cable tv. I embraced cord cutting and gave me a reason to get out of the house and be a better member of society if it is going to a friends house to watch the game or a bar or just not watching tv altogether. I currently watch a lot of documentaries, series shows, and movies. I kept my internet through the main stream provider for wifi. It saved me $90 a month and I don't feel like I am missing anything. I often watch ESPN3 online for multiple sports. Do it for a few months and see how it feels.

I've been internet-only for the better part of a decade now. I just go to a friends' house for the stuff I really wanna see. (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Sports, etc)

Ditched cable, along with the TV almost 6 years ago. Best thing I ever did.
Last thing I am going to say on my deathbed is "I wish I had watched more TV". Just my opinion. |

I pay around $45/month for my media which would be 3x of that if I had cable to get the same channels. |

All I need is news and sports. I would pay Netflix double what I pay now if they had that. I hate my 1000 channels of shit.

We've ditched cable and jacked up our internet to 150mbps after the cheap trial period. We watch our stuff on YouTube, Netflix and everything else such as news, sports, new tv shows, 4K movies off a little box. Has quite a lot of live channels too.
The cost of the box is less than $100 and I've easily saved $100/mth by ditching stupid cable that doesn't even show the variety of shit that I watch. Fucking cable can suck my dick. Don't ask about my little box because unless you can read Chinese, it'll be no good to you. |

Thanks for the link to this antenna. I checked out the reviews and it looks awesome. I just ordered. If it works well I'll use it for local channels and get Sling TV for HGTV, Food Channel, ESPN, etc. I've already got Amazon Prime and Netflix. I can buy a couple of Tivos for recording and I'll eliminate $130 per month I'm paying Directv. After paying for Sling, I will save $100 per month. That will buy a few more extras on the next car ![]() |

I have a cheap GE shark fin powered antenna in the attic above my garage. I can pick up all of the local channels 15. The picture quality is better than cable. We then have Amazon Prime and Netflix. The sports (Blues Hockey) and Cardinal Base ball are missed. I guess that is what the local bar is for
![]() I really do not miss the $100+ bill and other than the sports I am good. Steve |

DirecTV outage and backed up customer support today is helping make the case for cutting the cord. At least I'm only missing CNBC in the background in my office.

i tried it for about 6 months (outside of football season) and didnt like it. There were a few shows that werent on Hulu/Netflix that i watched that i missed, and i felt like anytime i tried to watch Hulu during primetime, it would just buffer forever. Commercials were always coming in clear with no delay though...
Its also just so much easier to turn on the DirectTV box than figure out which app i need to use to watch which show or trying to find a live stream on some random website. |
