The rave scene has been dead for a while. Well, at least the "authentic" scene.

EDIT: take it easy on the glowsticks, pacifiers, and X now

Getting older sucks!

Hey, that does not bode well for me then, as I'm looking towards another 4-6 years of PhD study. At least we have a beer-drinking-binge club. Oops, the code-name is The Journal Club.

Ya, I thought about grad school, then I gave it the finger. Having a PHD or MD for psych behind my name on a card seemed cool. But seeing how my sister invested so much money, busted her ass going for her masters in Columbia, and coming out making so much less money than me just discouraged me.

... "so much less..." is that right? Doesn't sound right. Wait no, it's right. Oh well, maybe I should go to school some more.

Yeah - but that's different for the masters program (and the MD) where you have to actually invest/pay for the years of study.

For PhD - they pay YOU . Not much but hey, at least I'm not spending 30k/year (med school) or 10k/year (masters). I guess that's the only special thing about the PhD program - you don't throw yourself deeper into debt.

EDIT: Hey sharp, have you ever considered moving, then?

Haha, I'm not so much worried about the money part, more so in regards to the busting my ass part.

He's probably not moving because he's like the Mr. Burns of that town... you will an evil smile on his face from time to time while saying "excellent".

Geez, sharp - that does indeed sound quite harsh. Obviously you're doing fine, I suppose, as you are driving a nice 325i but nevertheless, you do indeed show a bit of concern about abandoning your friends and family in taking a move.

If I were in your shoes, my biggest concern for moving would rest on the simple concept of whether I would want to raise my own children in such a town. Would you want to propagate this endless cycle of being stuck in Hazleton upon your own kids?

On the other side, though - I moved from Sacramento CA to San Diego CA with absolutely no friends (for college). While it's a totally different scenario to your post-school era, I was able to fare well with making new friends and starting anew. In your case, however, it would probably be really hard to make new friends outside of such a colloquial environment like a university (bars? fitness clubs? work? the beaches, parks? I don't know).

I wouldn't say you're a coward though - that really would be a huge leap. Sorry man about your situation, though - I sympathize with what Hazleton has to go through.

Man...convince the family to move the business elsewhere, or at least attempt to start another branch.
