Suits!

Recently I lost 55+ lbs putting me (currently) at 170 at 5'11." Great, right? Not really because this means I need to find all new suits, as my now 170 lb body looks like it's swimming in my designer suits that once catered to my 225lb body. I had a few made tailored to fit me, but they were all a 'so so' fit at best. I went to a reputable online store and ordered a few suits 1. a Prada suit and 2. a less expensive Burberry Suit. Both just looked shitty. Then I went to Kohl's and tried their extra slim fit Apt. 9 suits which fit f-ing phenomenally to my new body. My questions is this.. would you wear a cheaper suit if it fit you like a glove or would you spend hours/days trying to find a designer suit to fit?

Hey that's awesome! Would you mind sharing your weight loss method?!

Anyway... suits.

I wear suits 3 times a year. I have 2 suits, both for around $500-600 at Men's Warehouse because it's easy and they look decent enough for me. I wouldn't buy a suit at Kohl's.

There are probably better places to buy suits, but honestly the one by my house knows me so they treat me right.

Cheaper suit is very relative. I'm for tailored less expensive suits vs pricey non tailored.

Congrats on weight loss.

Unless it uses some clearly crappy material, a suit that fits perfectly will look great. Conversely, nothing makes a suit look worse than a terrible fit, regardless of brand or price. Unless you have an issue with the materials I'd keep whatever you bought that fits really well. Inexpensive is just a bonus.

If you want something else for special occasions, get a custom tailored suit made to fit you. Sounds like you may have tried this before so if you didn't like the results try a different clothier. I have a custom made suit, a couple of sport coats and pants and they fit / look the best. They take a long time, may need an alteration or two once they come in and are expensive, but IMO I'd much rather spend the $$$ on something custom made than on designer suits from a department store.

If it's a business suit that you rotate on a regular basis then I would not go custom but use a Men's Warehouse or department store, but don't buy too many from one place because you really don't know how they'll hold up.
But if it's one of the slim design suits like Jimmy Fallon wears, I personally don't care for those.
How can you buy on-line? Personally I wouldn't get a suit that needs alteration except for sleeve and pant length, at 170 and 5'11" clothes should fit you perfectly.

As a guy who wears a suit daily my advice is this: Find a good tailor. A good tailor can make a not so great fitting suit perfect. If you do not want to go the tailor route or cannot find a really good tailor (the good ones are the ones that make bespoke suits) then I suggest that you buy the suit that fits best regardless of price.

A cheap tailored suit will look infinitely better than an ill-fitting expensive suit. A couple things to consider with inexpensive suits are the materials and construction. A wool suit breathes better and maintains its shape better than one made of synthetics. Likewise, a poorly constructed suit will not hold up to frequent wearing, but can certainly handle being work a handful of times per year.

I wear suits everyday for work and often on weekends, plus holidays and special events. When I buy a suit I buy an extra pair of pants to extend the longevity of the whole outfit. I am rough on my clothing, so I won't spend too much on ultimately disposable items. Since I live in suits everyday, however, I want to look and feel good about my clothing, including how much I spend on the outfit.

The consensus has spoken... A cheap suit with a magical tailor will beat out an expensive suit that doesn't fit and isn't contoured to your body...

But imagine what an expensive suit with the same magical tailor will look like?

Van has anti-recording products applied. Can never be TOO careful.

Plus this is some rule about pics, crossing state lines, other little things

I went to saks off fifth and picked up a Zegna Fabric suit for $450.

Hit the higher end outlet stores, lots of great deals

Although I wear suits every day, I do not wear the jacket all day, unlike my pants which unfortunately spend way too much time secured around my waist. So the pants essentially get twice as much wear as the jacket.

One thing to be aware of, you should always dry clean the jacket and pants together, even if they are not worn the same amount, in order to keep any fade to the fabric uniform between the two or three pieces.

As for as the sluts....

It is, but you cannot do this with the better quality suits. This is only an option with the cheaper mass produced store stuff or bespoke.

An expensive suit with a great tailor is how you get a great suit. This option tends to run north of 1500.00. Anything under 1000.00 list price is cheap junk. See it for what it is.

If you have a good dry cleaner, you will not see any fading. And if you do, the suit needs to be replaced anyway.
