Anyone else do the Porsche Experience?

I did Exotics in Vegas and picked the 911 there because we were on the inside road course, not the full oval. When instructor asked who was driving the 911 and I was the only one raising my hand, I thought there was an issue. He clapped
I also did some Groupon thing that was in my backyard to drive a Ferrari. For the price and time invested it was disappointing, we had a figure 8 that didn't cross that might have been 300 yards long. $450 for 1.5 hours of seat time is a STEAL, regardless of the vehicle. |

No, but I was willing to fly if the price was right and tag it on to a vacation. Plus, they have a few other experiences that are not in Florida which were also interesting (ice driving) but it is just astronomically priced. To me anyways.

There are some good reviews there regarding PEC in LA. Seems like a must-do for any car enthusiast. Even more so for me since I'm a new Porsche owner. |

Get an invitation to a Porsche product track day. They let us do autocross with Caymans and maneuverability with the SUVs. We took the multiple 911 variants and Panamera's on the track. All in all I did about 50-60 laps and it cost me nothing.
I did learn that most of the attendees were NOT car people. It was pretty sad to watch. There were perhaps 4 people that really enjoyed cars. There was even a guy who didn't realize that the PDK in full sport behaves more like a manual transmission than an automatic. He actually thought the car was stuck in first gear and pulled over at pit-out. When I stopped to see what was wrong, I told him that you have to drive faster to make the car operate properly and left in a cloud of fresh PSS smoke!!

If it's anything like the BMW Driving School, you have to be a Porsche owner for the free invitation. For BMW it has to be an M car or 5 regular cars afaik.

Just go to the Porsche dealership and have a talk with whomever manages the invitations. They typically look for new business and this is a good way to directly acquire a customer from a somewhat competing marque.

A guess but I would expect that Bondurant gets people that are more serious about performance cars and probably a better learning experience, partly because they had to seek Bondurant out, not find out about it while buying their Cayenne and learning about the fold down seats. Just the manual only Viper probably cuts a large part of the population out.

Beats someone droning on while pointing at a map. For me, I don't learn shit in a classroom. I can't stand side seat drivers, especially when I know there's a good chance they're gonna yank the steering wheel on me trying to "show" me something. So really I guess it depends on how you want to learn. Maybe all the track time is the reason why it's more expensive than Bondurant. I agree with you that the Porsche Experience (completely different from PSDS) is closer to what you're probably referencing. That's the one you learn about while being shown how your fold down backseats work. You have to seek out PSDS (not that the dealer wouldn't know about it if you asked). |
