Drunk driver rant / how I came to a 4-series!
So first off, let me say hello all! I joined this board after my wife landed on a 4 series for her latest car, and I want to tinker with it for some strange reason. As it goes, it's a story of anger and dismay and a temporary car while she hunts the perfect one (and inevitably passes the 4 series on to me... it's what I wanted a few years back anyway).
Where it all began... I get this strange phone call from a "restricted" number, what? ignore, more telemarketing crap, right?!... immediately it calls back, fine, I'll play your game. "Hello, this is XXXXXXX with XXXXX PD, may I speak to the homeowner of (address) please?" -- you've got em, whats going on exactly? - Well, a car has run through your garage.... a silence to which I reply... "From a restricted number... this is not a good prank call" and start to hang up "But sir, I'm staring at a sad looking destroyed little red porsche that begs to differ" . At this moment my heart sank, tone completely changed, and the officer explains they need me home immediately due to the nature of the damage . . I arrive to 3 police cars, 4 officers, and a greeting from all of our neighbors who saw it all. - at 1:30PM on a thursday, a guy drove into my garage at 60MPH and destroyed the garage and my wife's '14 981 boxster with 12k miles on the clock that was in absolute mint condition. pics, so we can all share the heartache here - Fortunately, it was "just a car"... hmm we know how us enthusiasts are about cars... That lovely recliner sitting in front of the porsche (it was originally between the front doors).. that's my normal sit and chill after the nightly detail and wipe down of the cars, so at this point, I'm VERY glad it was the middle of the day. The guy left the scene (somehow) and was chased until his car gave out at a gas station by a neighbor who held them there until police showed up! I know many of you may have far worse incidents with drunk drivers, so feel free to share away! This one was all just things, and as much as it sucks dealing with insurance to get things repaired and replaced, I'm happy we had it and that no one was truly injured... but at least one drunk driver will be off the road for a LONG time thanks to the level of property damage he did. As it goes, I had sold my 4 seat car in the time since acquiring the boxster, and we were unable to locate the perfect replacement in a timely manner. So needing a second car with 4 seats, my wife landed on a 440i Msport in snapper rocks blue as a temporary solution to reduce the stresses of car hunting and such. So now she can slow down and find exactly what she wants or order it later since the lead time on porsche builds is 4 months. enter said 440i |

Holy hell, what a story.
So youre telling me, this guy cruises into your garage at 60mph at 130 on a thursday and somehow finds his way back out and continues to drive around? What was he driving in? Sorry to hear about the troubles, But this is far better than your cherry red porsche getting hit by a drunk driver with your wife inside! God was on your side! 440i looks great, snapper rocks is a cool color, enjoy it!!

Drunk drivers are the scum of the earth. I've seen so many accidents caused by them where they could care less about what happened and are self centered idiots. A girl I was previously friends with was out drinking at a casino with her friends. She decided to drive home (the casino is an hour away) and hit a motorcyclist at an intersection. She still to this day thinks alcohol had nothing to do with the accident, and that she was perfectly fine to drive even though she tested way over the legal limit and could barely stand up at the scene. All of her friends drove home that night also.

2. despicable As part of my job, I get to see the ramifications of what these idiots do on a regular basis. I think a dui should result in a permanent revocation of the offender's driver license. |

It should be taken away, definitely. She now has one of those things you blow into in her car.

Thanks guys! Keep sharing away! P.S. I'm VERY thankful I wasn't in that chair, LOL. 100% a nightly ritual that I won't be doing any longer.. or the chair will find it's way to the other end of the garage when it's replaced... also adding steal beams on either side of each garage door when it's rebuilt... I might also add I'm 90* perpendicular to the 45MPH road I reside on and 60' off of it, and this guy was coming out of a 15mph road with a horrendous speed bump at the end across the street -.- Drunk drivers never think they're the problem. I have an ex-friend whom I've taken keys away from on numerous occasions, and still to this day drives after drinking. Needless to say, we haven't been friends in years, and my last words to him were along the lines of you've been lucky and you're clock is ticking until you hurt yourself or someone else. (he started drinking halfway to a destination on a motorcycle ride.. I turned around and went home). |

My ritualistic chill after a long day . It's been hell with the garage destroyed not getting that time alone out there. Just a quick 15 minute waterless wash and touch up the interior/tires as needed. Then chill and admire for 5-10-15 minutes, whatever I need at the time, LOL. Easy last thing to do before hitting the sack. I had to pay someone to do the "new car prep" on this one.. that felt odd, but he did take care of it perfectly for me. Admittedly, there were a few days here and there it didn't happen, but most it did. If the Porsche left the garage, it got detailed when it got back.... drove my wife nuts, and one day she was trying to leave as I was finishing up, tried to run over my foot she did cause I saw a spot I missed...

Unfortunately, I have Arlo cams, and the guy was going to fast, all you can see on the security camera is the puff of smoke after he hit the garage. Thank goodness for lots of witnesses! It was the first thing I pulled up, still in disbelief that what the cop said was real, LOL. Even after watching.. nah.. that can't be a car... can it?!
