2009 Audi B8 A4 Review

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=126539#2

Its going to be a tough choice between the 335i Sedan LCI and this new A4. While I love the interior of the Audi, the performance is lacking.

Lets get some opinions...

Love the new A4, but I'd take a facelifted (...or LCI...whatever...) 335i over it.

As usual Audi is killing it with their interior and exterior designs and forgetting all about power, performance, handling and balance.

What are you talking about everything is great other than the power. The brakes, handling, and balance are great.

I will give you breaks.. but the engine is too far up and the only option is FWD if you don't get Quattro, and come on Audi ...210 hp from a 2.0 engine? I know it's small, and it is a great engine but the Japanese are destroying you!

I am a HUGE Audi fan (see Fig. a). I came from a B7 A4 to my 335i and I will never look back until Audi gets their engine behind the front axle and starts offering RWD, no matter how dead sexy (Fat Bastard from Austin Powers voice) their cars are. Audi does a lot of things brilliantly and they know how to make an amazing car (R10, RS4, R8) but 30-40k segment has some heavy hitters in the performance arena 335i, G37, IS 350, etc. With 265 hp in a car that weighs 3,870 lb and costs $45,000 the new A4 is heavier and slower than it's competition. But you get some pretty sweet LED headlights so it will sell

You guys are quick.

The article did mention that the handling is great, but I'd still bet the E90 (328 and 335) could beat it around a corner. I'm going to reserve judgment for a test drive though, but I was just in an A4 2.0T AWD and it seemed sluggish and the handling didn't seem to impress me. Audi's Quattro doesn't impress me like the AWD system of the Evo and STi..

Nothing wrong with the FWD for every-day driving...
And I am not sure about the 2.0L 210 Audi vs. Japanese engine comment...
I don't see any Japanese 2.0L engines making more than 200 HP (Honda, Toyota, Mitsu, Nissan, Acura). I hope you're not talking EVO and that other crap...
And who the hell needs more than 200 HP anyway?

And then it hits us. That a-hole is right. Absolutely right. There is only one thing wrong with the 2009 Audi A4, and it's the simple fact that a BMW 335i can blow its doors off.

To be fair the S4 is a rival for the 335i so lets not jump the gun here

Except that you have to rev the piss out of it to get that power and torque is completely lacking. Same thing went for the 2ZZ in my Elise. Get caught with your pants down with either one and you might as well have a Snickers while you wait to get in the power.

With the B8, Audi moved the engine back farther in the chassis. But I agree, they could do with more power. That's why I got the 335i instead of the TT since the 3.2 was not fast enough for me. That said, it is pretty easy to get significantly more power out of the 2.0T, not 335i power, but enough for most.

Who needs more then 200HP? How about everyone driving a 335i, Evo, M3, S4, S5, etc, but I agree theres nothing wrong with FWD for everyday driving, although I like to enjoy backroads with my car and I hate the feel of FWD cars AND how can you call the Evo crap? Its nothing short of amazing, everything from the engine to the AWD system.

Its nice that Audi is returning to turbo'd engines for their S cars. The S5 is a beautiful car, but a V8 and 14mpg (combined) is not that attractive with the prices of gas today..

I agree. Give me the A4 with a rear wheel drive option and more power. I'm sure it will be a great car though.

I said who needs, not who wishes to have it...
THere is absolutely no need for EVO or 335 power...
It is only a misconseption in this country that bigger is actually better and more fun...
